Buyer Beware - Santa Fe Ford Uses Fraudulant Sales Practices My wife and I purchased a used 2016 Jeep Wrangler Rubicon from Santa Fe Ford on 08/19/17. We initially went to look at the vehicle on 08/12/17 and met with Joey Key. Joey provided a low-pressure sales experience and seemed very honest upon first impression. The vehicle was a little rough cosmetically for a 2016, but the price reflected the condition so we were okay with that. Upon test driving the Jeep we noticed that it seemed to run rough at idle. When we arrived back at the dealership I mentioned it to Joey who told me he had never noticed it. I told him that it was severe and I couldn’t imagine how it went unnoticed, but he insisted that there was nothing wrong with the vehicle. This should have been my first red flag. My wife and I decided to do more research before making our decision. Over the next few days we searched for a similarly equipped Jeep Wrangler Rubicon, but found this one to be the only vehicle that met our criteria within 200 miles of us. On Thursday, August 17th I called Santa Fe Ford and spoke with Randy Holt to see if they would be willing to fix the rough idle issue. Since the Jeep was still under the manufacturer’s bumper to bumper warranty, I asked Randy if they would be willing to take it to a Jeep dealership and get the issue diagnosed. Randy told me that they were not willing to do that, but instead invited us to take the vehicle to a Jeep dealership ourselves. He also insisted that their service department had inspected the vehicle and found nothing wrong. I made an appointment at a Jeep dealership for Friday afternoon, and my wife drove down (over an hour away) to take the vehicle to the appointment. The Service department quickly diagnosed the issue as a bent transmission mount. They gave my wife a repair estimate for $290 and said it would not be covered under warranty since it appeared to have been damaged off-road. I called Joey and told him what the problem was and offered to buy the Jeep if he lowered the price $290 and discounted it another $200 for our time and fuel spent traveling back and forth. Joey asked me to hold for a moment while he checked with his boss. A few minutes later, Joey came back and became extremely rude and confrontational. He told me that the owner of the dealership said the Jeep was not for sale if I was buying it. I questioned him and he told me that I had been “calling down there and bothering them all week” and I was “making demands” and “they don’t do business with people like me.” He then went on to tell me that if I wanted to buy the vehicle I could, but the price just went up $2500. I asked him why and he said that they had been looking at similar vehicles on the market and realized that the price was too low so they decided to raise it. They even went as far as to change the price on their website. Santa Fe Ford had this vehicle in their inventory for over 4 months, therefore they had plenty of time to figure out what it’s worth. I told him that this was very shady and dishonest, especially since I had already been quoted a price. At that point, he agreed to sell me the vehicle for the original price but only if I bought it that day. I live over an hour from Santa Fe Ford and it was already late so I told Joey that we would come the following morning and purchase the Jeep, to which he reluctantly agreed. I only called the dealership twice all week, once to ask if they could take it to a Jeep dealership to be fixed and once to tell them what time my wife would be there to pick the Jeep up and take it herself. If someone calling twice in one week attempting to purchase a vehicle is such an inconvenience then maybe these people are in the wrong business. We arrived at the dealership on Saturday, August 19th around 10:00 am. Joey presented the deal just as we had discussed. After waiting over an hour for the finance department to pull our credit, Joey returned and said that my wife’s credit score was too low for us to get financed. He told me that I could finance it in my name only, but the interest rate would be 6.9%. I asked to see the list of banks and the buy rates they provided, to which he refused and claimed that they only go through 4 banks so as not to “flood the market with my information.” I asked to talk to the finance manager myself, but Joey once again refused. My wife and I both have excellent credit so at this point we left the dealership frustrated, knowing they were trying to take advantage of us. My wife decided to return to the dealership a few minutes later after we realized they never provided our credit scores. At first Joey was hesitant to provide our credit scores and claimed he was having trouble printing them from his computer, but eventually was able to produce them. Clearly, they were trying to steal from us by raising the buy rate several points which would result in more money in their pockets. After clarifying that they would in fact honor the deal if we obtained financing elsewhere, we left the dealership and immediately went to a Vystar Credit Union branch in Gainesville. Upon our arrival, we quickly learned that both of our credit scores were significantly higher than what Joey had told us. We received approval on a joint auto loan in less than 20 minutes at an interest rate over 4% lower than what they offered. We returned to Santa Fe Ford and purchased the Jeep. Overall our experience with Joey and Santa Fe Ford was extremely poor. They attempted to hide issues on a vehicle, and then chose to raise the price after we learned how minor the issue was. The only way I could get them to sell the vehicle for the original price was by threatening to seek legal action for false advertising. Furthermore, they attempted to deter us once again by falsely representing our credit scores and lying about our ability to obtain financing. I found Joey Key and Santa Fe Ford to be extremely deceptive, untruthful and untrustworthy. I will never return to Santa Fe Ford again and strongly caution all others to go elsewhere. More

Without even looking at my trade-in salesman offered a wholesale number on my truck and retail on theirs. When I told him those numbers didn't work for me he asked what the numbers should be..... I offered him a wholesale number on his truck and retail for my trade. Salesman became defensive and said that wasn't going to happen. I then asked if there was someone there who could look at my truck and give realistic numbers on what trading would cost me.... He said no, that I'd have to come back on a week day before 5 PM. There was no further discussion. More
