ALLOW MECHANICS TO CONDUCT A PRE-PURCHASE INSPECTION.! After a month search for a pre-owned BMW X5, I thought I found the ideal vehicle at Classic BMW. Instead, I encountered an awkward and irregular expe After a month search for a pre-owned BMW X5, I thought I found the ideal vehicle at Classic BMW. Instead, I encountered an awkward and irregular experience. Though my salesperson (Max) was excellent (friendly, responsive and knowledgable), the interest to purchase the car was quickly halted. To my surprise, Classic BMW would not allow me to conduct a pre-purchase inspection by an independent mechanic. Per the sales manager (Josh), it is company policy to NOT allow cars off the lot to visit mechanics. Becoming suspicious, I offered to have it towed to the service center. As I asked the question, I realized the significance of my request. Hmmm... why the hesitancy / lack of transparency? Why would a sales manager be willing to lose a sale over an industry standard demand? Regretfully, the refusal to allow a certified mechanic inspect the car prompted me to tell Max I was no longer interested. So much for buying a car with confidence at Classic BMW. As a BMW franchise dealer, I expected more! In contrast, BMW-Dallas encourages independent inspections and even offers a 5 day / 250 mile return policy. For myself, I'll continue to wait out the purchase until I find an opportunity under conditions that earn trust. More
