Buy new if you buy from Shelor, Beware of the 48 hour offer Positives first....Shannon Smith in the Used Car Sales was very nice and worked extremely hard to assist us in a purchase. And John Nixon in the New Positives first....Shannon Smith in the Used Car Sales was very nice and worked extremely hard to assist us in a purchase. And John Nixon in the New Toyota Sales was very professional and curtious. Thank you, John and Shannon. Negatives....The Used Car Management. Unprofessional, offensive and insulting. After working with Shannon, we purchased a used 2013 Nissan Pathfinder. The purchase process was slow and arduous. After a long and rather frustrating negotiation with the sales manager, Mickey Thomas, we purchased the car. (During the negotiation, Mickey actually implied that I had "redneck" actions. First insult!) The day after we brought the car home, it started having transmission problems. Using the 48 hour exchange that Shelor offers, we took the car back. Of course, Mickey was there to work us through a solution, which was to have the service department run a diagnostic on the car. That suggestion took some thought and a lot of conversation regarding the process. (In the conversation, I was told by Mickey that I was "demanding". Second insult!) We came to the conclusion that we were fine with the service department looking at the car. But prior to leaving, I point blank asked Mickey about the 48 hour exchange. He stated, "as long as the car is in their possession", the 48 hour exchange would be in force. That turned out to not be the whole truth. BEWARE of that offer. The management will do everything, even lie, to keep you from taking them up on the offer. After a lot of frustration and further negotiation, it turned out that Shelor could not "deliver" the used car that we had purchased due to a weird "IOU" that had been written up. (We had negotiated luggage rails/rack to be installed on the Nissan, but that particular Pathfinder could not have them installed. I guess the management should have done a little better research on the cars that they represent.) So, we were "let out" of the deal/purchase. But, we were told that we could not have our Volvo back that we had traded in, so that left us with buying something else. So all is well that ends well, kinda. We ended up purchasing a new 2014 Toyota 4Runner. The sales and management at the Shelor Toyota division were professional and easy to work with. It was like we were at a totally different dealership! So, buy a new car if you buy anything from Shelor and beware of the 48 hour exchange offer! More
