After striking out with other dealerships with their flat out lying and games, Joel assured me over the phone that he would do his best to get us in the car we wanted without being a tool about it. We knew what we wanted, we knew how much we were going to spend, and how much our trade in was worth.
I decided to give him a chance. Like all the car dealerships in the US, the games began, but he at least limited them. After we decided on a price, he went searching for the car we wanted. There were none in New England, so he we out of the region and got us the car we wanted a few days after we left the dealership. When we came in to pick up the car, it was perfect. There were no more games, it was all straight forward and we drove off the lot with an Elantra Limited with tech package and the color we wanted.
If I wasn't moving, the first dealership I would visit would be Somersworth. Even though I didn't go through a saleperson and dealt with Joel from the beginning, the people I talked to were pretty straight forward and personable. Shawn McKinney particularly stood out and if I were to buy another new car, I would have no problem asking for him by name.
In retrospect, I should have gone to Somersworth Hyundai first.
