I cannot overstate how disappointing our experience was purchasing a vehicle at Star Subaru. We negotiated a price over the phone, but when we sat down with the finance manager, he attempted to raise th purchasing a vehicle at Star Subaru. We negotiated a price over the phone, but when we sat down with the finance manager, he attempted to raise the price by $1,000 based on our payment method. We left. Before we reached the end of the block, the sales manager called back and agreed to honor the original price. When we followed up on the phone with specific questions about the vehicle's service history, we were told within minutes that a “co-worker” had placed a deposit and the car was no longer available. Days passed and it remained listed online. My wife called anonymously and was told it was on the lot and available. We reconnected with the sales manager and agreed to purchase the vehicle as a Certified Pre-Owned vehicle for an additional $1,000. When we inquired if purchasing an extended warranty was possible, the finance manager proposed skipping CPO certification and substituting a warranty instead — which we declined. On the day of closing, we made a final offer on a specific SAS Gold warranty. The sales manager returned from the finance office to tell us the car was "already CPO'd" and it was too late. The finance manager was dismissive and rude and refused to engage with us at closing at all. Our salespeople — who were genuinely helpful throughout — were left to handle paperwork they were unfamiliar with. Every question required someone to physically walk into the finance manager's office for an answer. It was unprofessional and unpleasant. At every point where my instincts told me something was wrong, I was dismissed. When I contacted Subaru of America before closing and confirmed the car wasn't showing as CPO in their system, the sales manager told me: "You're overthinking this, my friend." I was not. After purchase, I contacted Subaru of America again. Despite a written email from the sales manager, a signed contract, and multiple text confirmations — all explicitly promising CPO — Subaru confirmed the car had never been registered as Certified Pre-Owned. Instead, the finance manager had registered a lower-tier SAS Classic warranty without our knowledge or consent — an even lower tier product than the one we had refused twice during the transaction. This matter remains unresolved. To make matters worse, after submitting an honest review in response to the dealer's own survey, I received multiple calls and texts on my personal cell phone from both the sales manager and a salesperson pressuring me to take it down. In good faith, I complied — before I had even discovered the CPO issue. The use of my personal information to suppress a legitimate consumer review is a violation of DealerRater's platform policies. I would also note that when I attempted to contact the sales manager multiple times today regarding this unresolved matter, I was given a message that it would be "dealt with Monday." The contrast is difficult to ignore: when a negative review threatened the dealership's reputation, the sales manager found time to personally call and text me within hours. When a contractual obligation to a customer remains unfulfilled, a returned phone call apparently cannot be managed. Throughout this entire experience, every legitimate concern was minimized or dismissed. The pattern speaks for itself. I hope this review helps other buyers make an informed decision. More
