I needed assistance and I called the dealer since my car was under warranty. The engine just stopped. I called the 24 hour roadside assistance first and no one called back - 2 times I called I couldn’t even was under warranty. The engine just stopped. I understand that this is not the dealerships fault, but when I called the dealership and was referred to the manager I did not get a call back. The third I called my insurance company that got me a tow and took care of things. The dealership apologized over and over again, attempted to blame another dealership about the cable being loose and finally fixed it. More

Folks were very friendly to work with but I feel like communication between sales and finance could be a bit more streamlined. I purchased a returned leased 2017 Subaru Forester in April of 2019 from Subaru of Portland (SOP) which was a back and forth high pressure ordeal. I wouldn't recommend the dealership to anyone. It was Ce April of 2019 from Subaru of Portland (SOP) which was a back and forth high pressure ordeal. I wouldn't recommend the dealership to anyone. It was Certified Used but they would not let me see the inspection report, claiming it was internal information only. In June of 2020 the AC was blowing hot air. The Condenser was damaged and had leaked all refrigerant. I had to file a case with Subaru of America (SOA) to avoid being charged for a replacement. This replacement Condenser also failed in August 2021 and I had to go through the same routine. This time SOP told me that it must have been damaged in transit or was dropped. The truth is that it was a defective part that Subaru had recalled in February of 2021. I would have been charged for at least the labor for both replacements if I had not opened cases with SOA. Both entities acted like they were doing me a favor instead of taking responsibility for a defective Condenser. Since it was obvious the Condenser had been leaking for several years, I expressed my concern that the Compressor was also inevitably damaged. I believe I was sold a vehicle that had a damaged Condenser and it was not inspected as claimed beforehand. The second Condenser failed in approximately a year and it was the same defective part as was originally installed on the vehicle. Circumstantial evidence indicates to me that the refrigerant leak was most likely to have been occurring when I purchased the vehicle, especially since it was fully depleted of refrigerant in 2020. I insisted the Compressor needed to be replaced in order to ultimately fix the AC system, as refrigerant damage would be occurring and may take some time to deteriorate, especially the seals. When this repair was refused both times, I accused them of stalling until the warranty ran out and it would be fully my financial responsibility. SOP would not consider the replacement and stated the system was working normally. It was working, but failure was assured. No one at Subaru was going to budge, and I suspect that was because they were fully aware my low mileage usage (29,681) and time would be on their side to evade any responsibility of damage caused by the recalled and defective Condenser. I took my vehicle in to SOP for normal routine service in March 2024 where a cooling system check was documented as being done. Then in August 2025 when I went to a local mechanic for an oil change, I was told the Compressor was leaking. The inevitable had occurred, and of course the Warranty had expired as I predicted would happen. I took it to SOP and was told I would have to pay $1989.31 for a new Compressor. SOP filed a case with SOA upon my request and was told they could be refunded $1K of that amount and I would be responsible for the rest. I then filed my own case with SOA only to be told it was out of warranty, end of discussion. I called Brittane, my “Customer Advocate”, at SOA and requested she return my call, which she did not. Instead I received an email which again stated it was out of warranty, therefore my responsibility. She also claimed that SOA could not determine the service that had been done on my Forester was reliable since the records were incomplete having gone to a mechanic other than a Subaru service center. I responded that I have a full record of all services recommended at SOP and the only service outside of SOP is for oil changes only. This tactic seems to me to be another evasive maneuver to deny any culpability. I feel I have been defrauded and continuously given misinformation from Subaru of Portland. The Service Advisors and wonderful and treat the customers with friendliness and concern, but they are limited in what they can do. The Service Manager dismissed me with a “sorry you feel that way” comment when I spoke with him. I have been stonewalled by both entities and hope that others may be forewarned to consider taking their business elsewhere. More
