I brought my 2018 Chevrolet Colorado Duramax diesel to Swickard Chevrolet Thousand Oaks with a check engine light. The truck drove to the dealership at highway speeds — 70 to 80 mph — without issue. When I picked the vehicle up, it could not exceed 25 mph. That change happened while the truck was in their care. The dealership then disclosed — after charging me $1,400 — that the turbo had failed, and quoted approximately $5,500 for replacement. A competing authorized Chevrolet dealer quoted approximately $3,000 for the same repair. An independent mechanic quoted $3,200. Swickard's quote was roughly 70% above what I found elsewhere — presented while my vehicle was disabled on their lot. I have never received a satisfactory explanation for how a truck that drove to the dealership at highway speed left unable to exceed 25 mph. The General Manager declined to offer meaningful resolution. A California Bureau of Automotive Repair complaint (Case #CP2026-9612) is currently active. The investigator confirmed the dealership followed GM protocols but could not explain the before-and-after drivability change. I was ultimately forced to sell the vehicle as undrivable and purchase a replacement. I am sharing this as factual consumer information. I have documentation supporting every statement made here.
