Hi Vanessa, Thank you for your response. To clarify a few important points: When I scheduled the appointment, I was specifically told to bring my car in and leave it overnight and that my instructions about the cold-start noise would be added to my service order. I also left written instructions when I dropped the car off overnight. I went without my car for the evening and had to get a ride to and from your dealership. Despite this, the cold-start evaluation was not done as requested. In the $90 inspection write-up labeled “Failing CAM gears,” your technician noted that the vehicle was one quart low on oil and that the noise was “most likely” due to low oil pressure. Your own final documentation from that visit also states that after the oil was changed and topped off, “the noise went away.” At no point were there any fault codes, warning lights, or other diagnostic indicators to support the recommendation for over $7,000 in engine-related repairs. After my visit, I had two independent technicians who regularly work on Toyota vehicles inspect the car. Both confirmed that the engine repairs recommended by Toyota Carlsbad were not necessary and that the noise had resolved once the oil level was corrected. Given all of this, my concern is not that the noise was difficult to diagnose—it is that, even with your own documentation pointing to low oil and the noise resolving after the oil change, I was still presented with a very costly engine repair estimate. I also want to note that you have both my phone number and email on file, yet I did not receive a direct call or email from you. The first response I received was this public reply and one on Yelp. At this point, I have already submitted a formal complaint to Toyota Corporate with a copy of my invoice and the inspection notes. I would prefer that any further discussion about resolution be handled through that process, and I will be happy to speak with their case manager.

Thank you Vanessa for responding. Mike from Service called me the very next day after posting my review and said he had reserved the necessary parts to complete the recall work. I set the appointment for yesterday 12-8. The service was back to being excellent from what I was accustomed to for all these years. They even gave me a free rental car so I didn't have to wait the five hours for them to finish the work in the Toyota lobby.
