Entire procedure could not be done any worst. I will just list a few of the incidents that happened with this dealership. I came in with my family and i requested to cash buy a 2015 Highlander XL I will just list a few of the incidents that happened with this dealership. I came in with my family and i requested to cash buy a 2015 Highlander XLE with roof rack. They indicated they had one. They brought in for me to see and i told them no need to test drive i will take it ,but it only needs a roof rack.We never even got inside of it. I requested that this deal be expedited because we had left NJ @ 7 am and no one had eaten including our two dogs with us.I had a trade in and they took the car and about an hour later I am asking them for the keys to my car because it was taking them too long. After a while they gave me an offer and I accepted it.Suffice to say that after over 4 hours of waiting i now proceed to go and sign all the required paperwork so I could bring a certified bank check the following Monday. This was on a Saturday of the 4th of July weekend that we were there. After numerous papers were signed they finally gave me the full amount to bring in and to my surprise it was over $4k extra. After three of their finance individuals calculated the full buy out price all of them had different amounts but all exceeded the actual negotiated and agreed price by over $4k. After all of this wasted time I asked that all paperwork be torn because I would no longer want this buy. They refused and whatever papers I had on my hands I tore up and left. Hours later they called and left several messages indicating that they made an error and could I return. I called them and spoke to the sales manager and indicated what had happened with their calculations and he told me that the price we had agreed was good and could i come back Monday with my car and bring the proper amount and car would be ready Monday am. I went in the following Monday afternoon gave them my check and my car and they bring in the Highlander without a roof. I was a little upset but after all this I picked up the car with the guarantee that the roof was coming in in a week.Later on this day I entered a state building and ID was required so I pulled out my drivers license and to my surprise I din't have it with me, but then I remember that I showed it to them when I picked the car, so I called them and they said yes we have it and I requested for them to mail it back to me. After many requests I received it about three weeks later. Now to the roof rack a week later roof is not in, two weeks roof still not in and finally they said its in so i said fine I will be there Saturday am.As I approach the Gap they call me to say that they do not have it. I am now a few minutes away so I proceed to spend the weekend in the Poconos. A week later same thing happens they state it's in so I drive there but i send them an email to please let me know to come in the morning so i don't waste a whole day, because by now I have wasted several days going back and forth to no avail. Surprise, surprise I get an email around two pm to come in.I did not go @ that time on this day because as usual my weekend was ruined waiting for them to schedule me in. Finally a week later I came on the time and date agreed and this was done. Now there is only one other major open issue, my temporary tags had expired and I had not received anything from NJ DMV and I was now going to Virginia for two weeks with expired plates and no proper registration. I discussed this so many times with them from the beginning because the way things were being done I could foresee that this could be an issue and it became as such! So for all of this they offered me two oil changes for free!!! More
They are liars, they'll scam and rob you, avoid at all cost! These charlatans tricked me into trading in my brand new 2014 car with promises they would lower my car payments and give me a 2015 car. Well, they en These charlatans tricked me into trading in my brand new 2014 car with promises they would lower my car payments and give me a 2015 car. Well, they ended up actually doubling my debt, it went from $16 thousand to $30 thousand, and didn't even give me the 2015 car they promised, I got stock with another 2014 car. They took a brand new car from me and in exchange sold me an extremely expensive lemon. Now I have a car that has terrible brakes, in the winter it slides off the road making it extremely dangerous to drive when it snows, with one wash the paint melted like butter, the car burns engine oil through at a scary rate, the windshield washing fluid compartment empties out without me even using it, and the list of ridiculous problems for a new car just keep piling up. I regret ever stepping foot at that place, I was taken advantage of in the most abusive and hanus mannor. Those people at Halterman's should all be in jail for fraud and misrepresenting their products. They are disgusting individuals who like to take advantage of their customers. I should sue them, bunch of criminals. More
Rude, unapologetic, liars, potentially illegal activity In Mid-May of 2015 I purchased a 2013 Toyota Yaris from Halterman’s Toyota. Right after I purchased the vehicle I though the experience was quite good In Mid-May of 2015 I purchased a 2013 Toyota Yaris from Halterman’s Toyota. Right after I purchased the vehicle I though the experience was quite good. The salesman we worked with, Jay (Jasiel) and the floor manager Gerard were friendly and likeable. We (myself, wife, and brother) were in and out pretty quickly and felt good about the purchase. Upon arriving home that good feeling quickly disappeared after we had parked the car for an hour or so, and came back to a horrible stench inside the vehicle. The smell was cigarette smoke. At first we were baffled why the car we had just driven for an hour only now reeked of smoke. All three of us took the car for a test drive, and drove in the car on the way home and never noticed anything. Then we remembered that when we arrived at the dealer to see the car, it was not present, the salesman had to go get it from another lot. It took Jay (the salesman) about 5-10 minutes to actually bring the car to us. What we had only later realized is that when the car was brought to us, the A/C was on full blast and the all the windows and sunroof (more on sunroof later on) were all opened all the way. Basically the car was given a good spray of Febreze and aired out really well before we took it for a drive. We took out the cabin air filter, and it was black. It took us 3 days of nonstop shampooing and vacuuming every inch of the interior to finally get the stench to a point where it was tolerable. The rags we used to scrub with were turning black and grey as we cleaned. Finally only now after three months has the smell began to go away. This was the first strike. No one mentioned anything about the car being smoked in, not only that but they also intentionally tried to cover it up. Then there was strike two. While we spent days cleaning out the layers of smoke in the interior we noticed something wasn’t quite right with the headliner, and the roof. The car had a sunroof, but around one corner of the roof there was a dent going downward. We also noticed that the headliner around the inside of the sunroof looked wrinkled and scrunched together. It looked like the sunroof was poorly installed, but sunroofs are factory equipment so that seemed odd. Well after some research we found out that. The model Yaris we purchased didn’t come with a sunroof from the factory, this was an aftermarket sunroof installed by the owner, and it was done very poorly. Now we are worried if the roof was properly supported prior to installing this sunroof. You can’t just cut a hole in the roof and put in a sunroof, cars with sunroofs are specially engineered with extra cross supports, to maintain rigidity and safety in case the car rolls over. We have no idea if these precautions were taken when someone decided to cut a hole in the roof. Had we know this we would have never purchased the car, because this is a modification that for one can be deadly if no done right, and it is totally irreversible once done. Not only did the salesman not disclose that the sunroof is not factory equipment, but he even bragged about the car having a sunroof. If you thought this was all bad enough there is actually more. The real reason I finally got fed up and decided to write a review was because it is now three whole months since I purchased my Yaris from Halterman’s and I still do not have it registered and my temporary dealer plate expired two months ago. I have contacted the dealer more than a dozen times to try and get an explanation as to why after three months I still do not have license plates on my car and every time I call I get transferred to a different person with a different excuse (lie). So far I have spoken to Jay, Matt, Jeff, and Nicole. These are the only people I remember, on top of two people I forgot, and people who never called me back. So far the lies I have been told about my lack of license plates have been: That I had not signed a form when I purchased the car, I said sure fax or email to me and I will sign it ASAP. No one ever faxed or emailed me anything. After a few days I called again, and this time I was told that my insurance card was invalid, and that I needed to send them another. The insurance car was valid and I sent them the same one that I gave them originally, again no one called me back and still no plates. Then after calling again and asking to speak to a manager I was told that they still had not received the title from the previous owner and thus had not even submitted an application for a new registration and plates. This was after my temporary had already expired. I’m not even sure if it’s legal for them to not even be in possession of the title 30 days after they had already sold the car to someone. Then I was told that they already overnighted me another temporary plate that I could use while this was being resolved. Big shocker, I never received another temporary plate, so I called back again. This time I was told that there was a misunderstanding and that they could not send me another temporary plate. I was told I had to wait for them to obtain the title, meanwhile it was not their problem that I was no longer allowed to legally drive my new and only car. I called again after a week or so and was told that they finally got the titled and had sent it to the DMV to be processed and registered and that I should get plates soon. Called again a week later and was told that the title had some “error” on it and that they had to file for a new one and again to wait. Called again a week later and was told that they did not file for a duplicate the week before but had only done so just now. Just today I was told that it will take an additional 10 -14 days for the final paper worked to be filed and accepted. So not only do I still not have plated after three months, it will be a minimum of two more weeks until I can get them (maybe). I finally had enough and asked to speak to a manager. I was transferred to Jeff, who was apparently only made aware of this situation today, even though I had spoken to him a month prior, when he promised to “call me right back with an answer” but never did so. I told him I had enough and that I wanted my plates. Not only was this a nuisance but it is also illegal. I told him that I would report Halterman’s to every regulatory and government agency I could find and would speak to a lawyer. He was very rude and told me that by mentioning the word lawyer that he would be forced to “cease and desist all contact with me and hand the case over to the legal department”. This was the apology I was offered, and his excuse was that the DMV had “screwed something up”. This was the 10th or so excuse I had been given, and when I challenged him and told him he was lying and that I had already spoken to him before he denied that and persisted being rude and unapologetic. I then demanded that I get my plates, and have my “dealer fee” of around $300 refunded because that fee is for the handling of things like registration and plates. He said no (rudely) and told me basically it is what it is and that is all. I find it absurd that I paid $300 plus dollars for their “services” and this is the treatment that I have gotten. I am also shocked that this is how management treats customers. This is by far the worst dealer experience I have ever had in my life and I have purchased maybe a dozen cars in my life. The saddest part is that this isn’t the first time I have been shafted and treated like garbage, but this time was so bad that it finally made me want to write a negative review, something I have never done before despite many times where I probably should have. Stay away from this dealer at all costs. For all I know, I might be driving a stolen car right now, or I might be told that they were not supposed to sell me this car in the first place and want to take it back. Something is seriously wrong here, and I will pursue legal action against Halterman’s in East Stroudsburg Pennsylvania. I plead with anyone thinking about doing business with these people to stay away. More

Car report was not accurate or they choose not to be honest about it. Too much discovery as I dug deeper. The car was filthy outside and inside with cigar/cigarette smell and tobacco littered throughout the interior. Had to go out to lunch and come back so they could cleaned it up. I really had to dig in to get an explanation on the front end repair not listed on car report. The sales team did not seem to care. Luckily I asked questions and didn't assume anything. To be safe just don't take the chance and find another dealer. More
