I bought a new truck 2 years ago and gave UJ Chevrolet a great review. Unfortunately, my truck went into limp mode early April. I had it towed to the dealership. the following week after diagnostics they great review. Unfortunately, my truck went into limp mode early April. I had it towed to the dealership. the following week after diagnostics they said a camera was bad and the fuel pump need replacing. Fine - $100 deductible for the extended warranty it'll be done late this afternoon. received a text asking if I wanted the fuel filter replaced. I am happy to replace the filter myself and save a few hundred dollars. That evening, I get a call. The mechanic was changing the fuel filter and noticed what appeared to be DEF in the filter housing. This voids the warranty, so your repair will be $18,000. Three months later I learned more about diesel engines than I ever wanted to know. I drained and kept the fuel, fuel filter, fuel housing and fuel pump. None of them showed any signs of DEF contamination. Many mor details, but after I got it running, I went to U-J and dropped off a letter to the service manager and talked with him about the problems that kept me from earning during this period without my truck, as well as the false diagnosis of DEF contamination. They NEVER tested the fuel, but said that the insurance company was supposed to diagnose the DEF, NOT their CERTIFIED Diesel mechanic. Logic lost on me. A litmus test can be done for a few dollars, if that was positive, they could send it off for better testing if required, but nothing except that will be $18k. They then charged me for the diagnostics and misc. charges because the (pretend) DEF voided the warranty so pay. After I drove to the dealership in my truck and asked them to provide me with their DEF contamination procedures to ensure proper diagnosis because not many people have $18k laying around. they sent me a $200 check and an apology for "ACCIDENTALLY" double charging me for diagnostics. All I wanted, was and explanation as to how the DEF supposedly got in my tank. I am the only one to add it, drive it, and I have a log of EVERYTIME I add DEF to the truck. My last DEF fill-up was late Jan and 6-8 tanks of diesel later my truck goes into limp mode at exactly 40k miles. My insurance company is also derelict in that the adjuster didn't go and pull a fuel sample, he just took the word of the mechanic at U-J and said, DEF contamination. It wasn't until I kept asking for the fuel report that I was told oops, we only took the mechanics word for it. Is this something that happens to other people? I was willing to accept responsibility with a simple logical answer. Even if it was vandalism, I just wanted to know. However, the sheer gall of the supposed professionals to just try to Crame a lame halfhearted excuse for justification is very depressing. I have seen many videos of people who ACTUALLY put DEF in their tank by accident. The ones who caught it to the correct measures immediately. The ones who didn't, told of not getting more than a few miles down the road because the DEF is heavier and gets pulled into the fuel pump almost immediately. So much more to complain about, but I have spent too long trying to correct a problem that should have been done by REAL PROFESSIONALS. The only fair and honest person I dealt with was a young lady named Aubra. The rest just felt like smoke up MY tailpipe. Colon cancer more likely now. More
