Buyers beware of highly deceptive and potentially illegal financing tactics in the back office! When my wife and I were finalizing our purchase, the finance manager gave us two suspicious options: take an 11 financing tactics in the back office! When my wife and I were finalizing our purchase, the finance manager gave us two suspicious options: take an 11% interest rate that required jumping through ridiculous hoops (Social Security cards, utility bills, phone screenings), or get a much better 5.75% prime rate—but ONLY if we agreed to buy a $4,000 bumper-to-bumper extended warranty. The finance manager explicitly claimed the bank was demanding the $4,000 warranty to approve the lower rate. When I pushed back and refused the warranty, he walked out of the office for a few minutes, only to return claiming he somehow "pulled some strings" to get us the lower rate without the warranty. For anyone reading this: banks do not force you to buy a dealership's extended warranty to secure a better interest rate. Holding an approval hostage to force a $4,000 back-end commission is an unethical sales tactic known as tied selling. We stood our ground and got the deal done without the extra charges, but I am not letting this slide. I am filing formal complaints regarding this incident with the Pennsylvania Attorney General’s Bureau of Consumer Protection and the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB) for deceptive sales practices. I am also forwarding my experience to local consumer investigative news teams so other buyers in the area don't fall for this trap. If you decide to shop here, be prepared to fight for the rate you actually qualify for and refuse their bogus "mandatory" add-ons. More
