However, he had to leave and Joshua filled-in for him. We met Alion near the end of our purchase and he seemed very nice and knowledgeable as well. Our last new car purchase was in 2005 - also @ West Hills Honda. It was a rather exhausting experience this time - 6 hours to buy a car. We paid cash - no financing, yet they still needed a credit report. The only negative part of the buying experience that we didn't like was with the Finance person.. He was relentless in his attempt to get us to purchase up to $6,000 worth of various insurance plans. The feeling was similar to getting-off a plane in Mexico and all the time share people pouncing on you as you exit the airport. Unfortunately, it seems all Dealerships try to sell you insurance plans, so this Dealership is no different from the rest. My understanding is that the insurance plans are big money makers for the Dealer. Lastly, the All State rep. was nice, but this is another aspect of the buying process that we didn't need. You should give buyers a choice if they want to speak with an insurance agent, not just make it part of the process to purchase a vehicle. More
Painful process, but arrived at a deal I visited West Hills Honda because I was looking to buy a new Civic and they had the specific model I wanted in stock. I had a 9 year old Honda Fit th I visited West Hills Honda because I was looking to buy a new Civic and they had the specific model I wanted in stock. I had a 9 year old Honda Fit that I was looking to either trade in or sell on my own, so I took it in for them to evaluate for possible trade in. We did eventually arrive at an acceptable deal for the trade in and car price, but it was not an enjoyable experience at all. To start they had a "TrueCar" printout showing the car price, factory and dealer option prices, TrueCar discount, etc. There were unexplained errors on the printout, the car didn't have any factory options and I was never shown a detailed listing of the dealer installed options to know if the dealer total was accurate. So the initial price point they started at with was too high. Their initial trade in offer was extremely low - $850 - so they started the negotiation process at an unreasonably high price. I had researched the actual new car sale prices and trade in value in advance so I had a reasonable "out the door" price in mind and offered that as a counter to their price. The ensuing "negotiation" became a drawn out effort on the part of the dealership to extract as much more above my offer as they could. I've dealt with other dealerships that have very quickly moved to the lowest possible price that they would accept, but that wasn't the approach at West Hills Honda. It was only after way too much time and too many arguments about why I needed to pay more that finally moved to a price $212 above my offer that was an acceptable price. I felt beat up and worn out by this and I won't plan to purchase a car at West Hills again. More
