I am a long time Toyota customer. I have been dealing with Toyota of Lakewood NJ for service during the summer season for a number of years for all of the Toyotas I have purchased I have been dealing with Toyota of Lakewood NJ for service during the summer season for a number of years for all of the Toyotas I have purchased or leased. Performance has always been more than satisfactory. As a result I decided, as a Florida resident, to see about purchasing/leasing a new Highlander or RAV4 from this dealership. I had an appointment on 7/20 and was totally underwhelmed—the gatekeeper asked me for information that the dealership already possessed and the sales guy was more interested in his computer screen than talking to me face to face. When I explained my expectations, I was told that was impossible. Only as I walked out, did someone attempt to intercede, but I was already mentally disenchanted and I’ll wait until I am back in Florida to investigate buying or leasing a new car. Sorry Toyota of Lakewood, just don’t tell your customers no—leads to no sales. Today I brought the Avalon in for 70k check up and explained the A/C was blowing hot air. THREE hours later, I received $438 bill of which $239 was for fixing the A/C. As I drove home, it was abundantly clear the A/C was NOT fixed. I returned to dealership and this time was told it was the A/C sensor which would be a 5hour job and cost approximately $1853 plus tax. Here are the basic questions: 1. How come the “real” problem wasn’t discovered the first time⁉️ 2. Is it the “real problem”⁉️ 3. Why didn’t the service tech know the A/C wasn’t fixed⁉️ 4. Why was I presented with the bill and assurance all was good⁉️ 5. Is this some sort of consumer scam⁉️ 6. Why did appointment take 3+ hours⁉️ Nobody could answer any of the above questions. Fortunately, the Service Manager removed the “$239 A/C is fixed” charge from the bill which I appreciated. Needless to say I rate my two day interaction with sales and service arms of the Toyota of Lakewood NJ as a total disaster. I will not return for service, not because of price, but because of the misdiagnosis and wasting my time. I am 82 years old and do NOT appreciate wasting time. More
