One of the most frustrating dealership experiences I’ve had, especially considering I was actively trying to buy the truck. I submitted inquiries to Huntley Ford around Thursday/Friday, including reque had, especially considering I was actively trying to buy the truck. I submitted inquiries to Huntley Ford around Thursday/Friday, including requesting the e-price. After receiving no response over the weekend, I called Monday morning. I spoke with three different salespeople and explained to each that I’m active-duty military stationed out of state, roughly a 13-hour drive away. I already had financing/preapproval available and was willing to complete paperwork remotely, pay for shipping, and wait for everything to clear before they released the vehicle. They told me the purchase had to happen in person. I also asked the first salesperson for a video walk-around and startup to check the truck’s condition, advertised features, and exhaust sound. Instead, I was essentially asked what I needed to see that wasn’t already in the high-definition photos, then told a product specialist would have to handle it. When I asked about shipping, I was told I would need to come in, complete the purchase, and then they could provide information for third-party shipping companies. At that stage, I was willing to buy a plane ticket, fly to Illinois, and either arrange shipping or drive the truck 13 hours home. I even offered to put down a deposit to show I was serious. My request was to agree on the price before spending money and time traveling. It wasn’t until the third salesperson that I was told that even after arriving with my preapproval and completing the paperwork, I could still have to wait several days to a couple of weeks for the funds to clear before they would release the truck. That meant potentially flying there to do paperwork, flying home to wait, and then either making another trip or arranging shipping myself. I had not agreed to that arrangement, and learning this added another obstacle to an already frustrating process. During that third call, I repeatedly heard that my “greatest leverage” would be coming into the dealership and negotiating in person. Why would I book a flight just to find out whether we could make a deal? From my perspective, having already spent money to get there would give the dealership more leverage, not me. I was asking about approximately $2,000 in price movement, so I repeatedly requested to speak with a manager to find out whether my offer was realistic. I wasn’t demanding they accept it. If we were too far apart, they could tell me, and I would move on. What frustrated me most was that I couldn’t even get a manager on the phone to discuss a possible sale. The salesperson eventually put me on hold and returned saying his manager told him the internet price was their best price and any further negotiation required me to come in. When I again asked to speak directly with the manager, the conversation went back to their hours, scheduling an appointment, and how coming in would give me more leverage. At that point, I hung up. I wanted this truck and was making a serious effort to purchase it. Yet after three salespeople and multiple calls, I still couldn’t have a direct conversation with management about the numbers before booking a flight. The repeated insistence on getting me through the door made me feel pressured to commit time and money before we had even established whether a deal was possible. It felt like the purchase could only move forward entirely on their terms, with little consideration for the distance or logistics involved. As an out-of-state buyer and active-duty service member, I can’t simply travel to Illinois to discuss options and potentially make another trip weeks later. I left frustrated and feeling like my interest in buying the truck wasn’t being taken seriously. I can’t speak for the people who left positive reviews, but local buyers may have an easier time working around the dealership’s requirements. Based on my experience, I strongly recommend looking elsewhere. More
