They "lured" us on an 80 mile each way drive with two
used vehicles that matched our needs and our price cap ($10,000). After a test drive of each we settled on one for them to run numbers.

They gave us an "offer" in which they low-balled our trade-in by $3000 under what we already had a firm offer from a small local dealer, overstated taxes and registration fees, included some bogus non-negotiable $400 anti-theft "extra VIN number" xxxxxxxx and a $3000 extended warranty we didn't request.
Their bottom line number was for us to finance a principle amount twice ($19,000+) the $9600 listed "purchase price" of the vehicle. We immediately walked out.
No way would I venture into that business ever again.

Hello Bob,
All of our pricing is clearly displayed online. We offer trade-in values at the benefit of our customers but are not required to trade-in the vehicle to us afterwards. You are still able to trade-in your vehicle with your local dealer and purchase a new vehicle with us and apologize for any misunderstandings concerning this issue.
Financial service products that enhance the purchase experience such extended warranties, mechanical protections, anti-theft and gap insurance are 100% optional and can be negotiated.
Please reach out to myself when you are able to speak so that we can better understand the experience that you had while visiting our store and would like the opportunity to help resolve any frustrations. We have clearly dropped the ball with your visit and have room to improve.
Thank you,
~ Jim Walen, Owner/Dealer

I dont think we have anything to resolve, Sir. We came in READY to purchase one of those two vehicles and drive it home that day.
We were told specifically that the $395 anti-theft VIN number thing was non-negotiable. The lowball of our trade-in was no surprise and we would have negotiated on that issue but when your offer was back loaded with so much unrequested crap that the out-the-door price was twice the price of the sticker, we were done.
We do not prefer to work with businesses that behave that way. So no thank you
