An Unexpected New Car Purchase It was ten and a half years ago when I bought my first Prius from Bobby Higgins. I drove that car 225,292 miles when I brought it back to the dealers It was ten and a half years ago when I bought my first Prius from Bobby Higgins. I drove that car 225,292 miles when I brought it back to the dealership with the first mechanical problem it had in that entire time -- brake pedal went to the floor. According to Service, I needed a new ABS brake actuator. Apparently, this is the most sophisticated and technically complex single part in generation two Prii. On top of the routine maintenance I wanted done, total to repair my car was, likely, more than $3,400. I elected to park the Prius for good. I had driven that car in all 48 lower states and six of the ten Canadian provinces. I had driven to the furthest eastern point in North America in Newfoundland and to the westernmost point in Washington state. Florida to Los Angeles and everywhere in between. In all that driving I had never experienced a serious, or unexpected, mechanical problem until the ABS actuator. I had gotten very, very good use out of my car. Bobby is still selling cars at the dealership and I sought him out, hoping that he would sell me another 225,000 mile car. I went with a late model, used Prius. Certified. Although I had done my homework, Bobby patiently walked me through the basic features and even studied up on the after-market audio/navigation unit that had been installed. He didn't have to do any selling at all. All he had to do was work with me to get to know the car a little and take care of the transaction. He's a nice guy, I look forward to seeing him again in about ten years. More
