I walked in and told them the exact car I wanted. A month later I was driving off the lot with it. This car was very hard to get and it was tricky getting out of my lease but the team worked with me More

We're sorry you were disappointed in your experience with us. We would note all fees are listed on our website to ensure our customers are fully informed before coming in to the showroom. We hope you are able to find a vehicle to meet your needs soon.

We apologize for how poorly your paperwork was handled. You should have been given the conveyance fee paperwork when the first cost estimate was presented, as is our policy. I have forwarded your feedback to our owner and general manager for follow up with the sales and finance teams. Regarding our conveyance fee, it covers a number of administrative costs, and we generally find that it is in line with what other dealerships charge. As was explained, we are the largest volume Hyundai dealer in Connecticut with a good deal of our customers coming from New York state, so our total pricing is very competitive. Again, we are very sorry you were disappointed in your experience, but we hope you are enjoying your new vehicle. Thank you for taking the time to leave your considered feedback.

I want to make it abundantly clear that I should have given Brendan Doty five stars for his patience and for presenting me with options. It was the people at the back end of the deal, the higher-ups, who muscled in and played fast and loose. New law on capping Doc/Conveyance Fees that goes into effect on 1 October 2023. In case readers do not make it to the bottom of this response/review, I have included language (verbatim) from January Session, 2023 Substitute House Bill No. 6544 from House of Representatives, March 28, 2023, the General Assembly, State of Connecticut. My response continues after making you aware of this forthcoming cap on fees "No dealer may charge a dealer conveyance fee or processing fee that is greater than one per cent of the selling price of the motor vehicle." That is welcome news and we are thankful to The Committee on Transportation and REP. LEMAR of the 96th Dist., Chairperson of the Committee on their thoughtful and deliberate response in passing this provision A vehicle purchased for $26,000 (unsure if the tax is included in the cap) will allow a dealer to charge a maximum of $260 (1% of $25,000) as opposed $1299 for their various "administrative fees" to quote Danbury Hyundai. Review/Response Continued... Here is where it gets misleading. "Regarding our conveyance fee, it covers a number of administrative costs, and we generally find that it is in line with what other dealerships charge." There are seven boxes under the Document Fee section, six of which do not apply at all. They are related to financing a vehicle, and there is one that relates to getting the vehicle registered. At the bottom, it says, that if a person chooses to do that on their own, they will deduct $50. Follow the logic here, folks: seven boxes, of which one box accounts for $50 (their document, almost certainly required by disclosure laws). if you have seven boxes and you have listed the cost of that linen item to the customer, why not list the remaining six? That way, a customer can know exactly how you arrive at $1299. If one or more of these line items does not apply to a transaction, what exactly is the customer paying for? The administrative costs are indeed listed under the seven lines, but if any of the six lines do not meet the definition of administrative costs (again, almost certainly required by state disclosure law to list these items), I quote a line from https://portal.ct.gov/dmv/vehicle-services/register-dealership?language=en_US Don’t complete your registration transaction with any dealership charging more than $25, and immediately notify the DMV. Again, for clarity's sake, this refers to the dealer registration fee, which still leaves room for them to charge for the additional items. IF a buyer does not avail of the other six items, why the charges? The average car dealer doc fee by state is displayed in the link below for your reference (updated in 2023). https://caredge.com/guides/car-dealer-doc-fee-by-state For CT, the average dealer fees are as follows: Doc fee: $415; title fee: $25; and registration fee: $80. So that is $520. Most buyers avail themselves of financing, so OK, $520, which, incidentally, is negotiable, per the bolded statement in their documents and as required by law to be printed in bold font of a certain size (per documents provided to me on Monday for a transaction completed the prior Saturday). I should have paid $105 based on 2023 averages. But I paid an excess of $1194 (rounded to $1200). I have done the work, and I hope readers going into this or similar dealerships take some of this work and put it to better use than I could. If any of you have faced similar excessive charges, you can fill out Form K-35 online , print it out along with documentation, and mail it to Department of Motor Vehicles Consumer Complaint Center 60 State Street Wethersfield, CT 06161
