Walked into the dealership with my family to see the Forester in person, as she was unsure of size and capacity of the vehicle. Front desk confirms our appointment and sends us over to Jackson. Jackson starts asking us basic questions like "What car were you looking at / for today?". We told him and I informed him my wife wanted to see the spaciousness of a Forester. He showed us a few older models that they had on hand. My wife was happy with the interior and cargo room. We walk back into the showroom floor and Jackson goes to salesman mode. I let him do his thing. He then starts writing numbers down after using a calculator (assuming he's trying to factor in his commission). We asked him for pricing on a Forester Wilderness. He turns to us and tries to talk us into a Limited/Touring model. I ask him to give us numbers on different models. He writes out pricing on a piece of paper stating the cost would be 42k +taxes and fees. Already knew about dealer markups for "market adjustment" which is a bunch of BS for dealers to make up for loss revenue. Anyway, I asked Jackson multiple times to give me an "out the door" pricing and to give me a break down on the numbers. He kept deflecting and kept asking "How much do you make?" "What monthly payments are you looking for?" "Are you trading in any vehicles?". I told him take off everything except for the pricing of the vehicle itself. He blatantly lies to me and says the car comes with "factory accessories" by default when ordering a NEW vehicle. The whole interaction is just absurd. When I told him we were leaving and not discussing any further, he runs to his manager and tells us "Since you are a returning customer, we can knock off $2000 for you." MSRP for any Forester is $5000 below the prices they were giving me. We were ready to talk numbers and give them our business but with this interaction, we went elsewhere. Needless to say. I do not recommend purchasing your vehicle from Star unless you want to pay over MSRP. The whole "dealer markup" is a scam to make people pay over what the vehicle is worth.
