I’m leaving this review to help other Toyota owners make informed decisions about maintenance recommendations. I own a 2017 Toyota 4Runner. At 62,000 miles, the dealership recommended and performed spark informed decisions about maintenance recommendations. I own a 2017 Toyota 4Runner. At 62,000 miles, the dealership recommended and performed spark plug replacement and an automatic transmission fluid drain-and-fill. While somewhat early, I accepted these services as conservative maintenance. However, at 85,000 miles, the dealership again recommended and performed the exact same services—spark plugs and another transmission drain-and-fill—despite there being no Toyota service interval or mechanical justification for repeating either service so soon. For reference: • Toyota iridium spark plugs are rated for up to 120,000 miles • A transmission drain-and-fill at 62k did not warrant repeating at 85k, especially under normal driving conditions and no off-road use While I understand that preventive maintenance can be subjective, recommending and performing these services twice within 23,000 miles reflects poor service guidance and unnecessary upselling, not best practices or manufacturer-based maintenance. The work itself did not damage the vehicle, but it added significant and avoidable cost without providing any measurable benefit. I expect a Toyota dealership to follow manufacturer-recommended service intervals and provide transparent, experience-based advice, not duplicate major services prematurely. I would advise other customers to ask for Toyota’s official maintenance intervals in writing before approving major service recommendations here. More
