I came in to test drive a 2022 Hyundai Ioniq 5, Larry Smith was my salesman. After the test drive I told him I liked the car, but would really only want to proceed if I was given $47,000 for my trade-in, Smith was my salesman. After the test drive I told him I liked the car, but would really only want to proceed if I was given $47,000 for my trade-in, a Tesla Model 3. He said he would talk to the sales manager and let me know within an hour, so I left. I never heard from anyone for the rest of the day. Monday morning I contacted Larry back after not receiving any follow up communication, he told me the sales manager would do $45,500 for my trade, but this could change if I came back in for them to evaluate the car in person. I came back to the dealership within an hour. The sales manager looks over the car and test drives it. Larry tells me they agree to $47,000 trade in. I had to go back to work for a meeting but I told him to send me a buyer's order with the trade on it so we could proceed, he said he would have it to me by 1 PM. After about 2 PM, I texted Larry since I had yet again not heard back. 3:30 PM comes, still no response to my text or my buyers order. At 5 PM I finally called and asked to speak to the sales manager directly, this time I got a different sales manager named Johnathan King, he told me the trade value is $45,500 again. He claims he's "working" with me because he took off some value from the market adjustment (the vehicle was listed as $48,300 MSRP + $3,089 market adjustment online). He claimed "The market adjustment is $6,000 but the website is wrong so I'm helping you". I feel like that's yet another bait & switch since he didn't adjust it a single dollar from what the website advertised. This is after the bait & switch I also experienced on my trade in. During all this my salesman was still nowhere to be found. I asked to be transferred to someone else and I was assigned to Dalton Shotts, he was nice and helpful, I had no issues with him at all, but was still a bit soured by everything that had previously taken place. I decided to buy the car anyway since it was the car I wanted in the color & trim I wanted, but in a normal car market I absolutely would have gone to a different Hyundai dealer at that point to purchase. I can honestly say I would not recommend Palmers Hyundai to a friend or relative, and likely would not purchase from here again once the market stabilizes. More
