I wanted a certain combination for a new car and I saw on the website that Lexus of Pembroke Pines had it. I called and was immediately greeted with a very warm phone call. They were nice enough to send me numbers over email. I told them I would be in the next day to look at the car and again was not pressured. Mo initially presented himself as easygoing and attentive. However, once we entered the negotiation phase, the experience shifted significantly. He returned with an updated offer while still holding the original quote. I asked to see both offers side by side so I could compare the numbers clearly. He refused to place the documents on the desk and would not allow me to review them together. Instead, he repeatedly stated that he could not let me leave with the paperwork, even though I never asked to take anything with me. I requested a few minutes of privacy to call my significant other to discuss the terms, he remained present and would not leave the quote. He took the updated quote back with him, saying he would return shortly. After waiting alone in his cubicle for approximately 7-10 minutes without any communication, I chose to leave. As I was exiting, he asked if I was looking for him. I was not. Refusing to allow a customer to compare two written offers side by side is not transparent or professional. Based on the resistance to a straightforward comparison, I believe the pricing or discount structure was altered in a way that would not have benefitted me, but would have benefitted them. That lack of transparency ultimately ended the transaction for me. Buyers should be able to review and compare written offers openly before making a financial commitment. Unfortunately, that standard was not met in this experience. More
