SOLD US A REPOSSESED CAR , LIED AND SAID IT WAS A TRADE IN I am writing this review so no one gets scammed like i did on a used car.... In 2015 I became disabled with a neurological disorder and had to move from the Chicago area because of the high property tax and cost of living , but my daughter stayed behind to go to school with our old car. She was having lots of issues with the car and I was paying ridiculous amounts of money for simple repairs i could not do because i was 650 miles away. We were in need of a reliable car for my daughter her taste in cars was limited. With my health issues, time was short and i didn't have the ability to search for weeks to buy from a private party. I normally would never use a dealer for a used car because of the markup, but she found the car she wanted on the internet at mcgrath. i researched the value of the car, and this dealer had the car priced at average dealer pricing. When we came to look it was a cold and rainy day, we took a test drive, and during the drive we got the typical lies and a story about the people who traded it in and what new car they supposedly bought. They refused to bring it in the shop and put it on a lift so i could thoroughly check it out, stating it was to busy in the service are. I should have left, but due to my medical condition, I just wanted to get it over with and go home. We went back inside and discussed i was paying cash. he wrote up the papers and the price was about 2 grand more then it was listed for online, As i struggled to read through the papers with my neurological condition, I noticed all these crazy add ons, with one being a $1000 theft service fee, and a warranty i didn't ask for. the salesman insisted i must purchase the theft service, and some of the other junk listed. I understand the bogus dealer fees all the dealers do, but most of the stuff was just sneaky add ons. the salesman went back and forth from the managers office several times taking the fees off one by one until we were close to what i was willing to pay for the car. I wanted the car for 9500 out the door, which was a very fair dealer price for the make and model, considering a dealer only pays about half the value on a trade in, there should have been plenty of wiggle room, after a couple hours of negotiating, I gave up and they let me walk out the door over a $500 difference in what i was wiling to pay. As we were about to drive away my daughter really wanted this car, so I caved and went back in. With me living out of state, I was responsible for taxes and registration. If i was local, I never would have known I bought a "REPO" car that this place got from an auction, and not a trade in like i was told. When the title arrived about a month later, the paperwork included a repossession affidavit from the secretary of state that I was required to submit when I applied for a new title. When this paperwork arrived I immediately called the dealer with my concerns. I was promised they would look into it and get a return call. When the return call came, I did get an apology and was told that this car slipped through the crack, they usually don't sell repossessed cars. I was promised he would work out some oil changes for a year, or other service to make it right. The representative I spoke with said he would call me back with he could offer me. I never got a call back. I tried a few times to contact the guy who I spoke with without success. I gave up due to my health issues and knowing I didn't have much recourse because they legally scammed me. I did write a google review of my experience about a year later, and I got the canned response that this dealer leaves for all the bad reviews asking to call. I humored myself and did call, again I got the apology, and a promise to make it right. Again i was told they would call back after he looks into what he could do. Again no return call. Knowing what i know now, I got ripped off. During the 3 hours it took to purchase this vehicle, and listening to the sales manager lie (with a big white booger hanging from his nose) when he insisted he had way to much into this car to sell it for $9500. Repos sell at auctions for well below value due to the risk involved, so at most they paid between 4 or 5 grand for this. Its my fault for getting ripped off, but time and my health condition got the best of me. I grew up around cars in the 80, and had many friends in the dealer business, not much has changed in the atmosphere, except cash doesn't get the best deal anymore, dealers now would rather have you finance because they make way more money making financing deals. I was expecting Mcgrath to be above the typical shady dealer with them being such a large company with multiple dealerships, but i was wrong. Again, with all the bogus fees and extras added to the deal that took hours to get removed from the deal, its my fault for not walking away. If you do take the gamble to buy from these shady people, be sure to triple check the paperwork, and ask to see the title. I would also assume that these practices happen at all mcgrath dealers. More

Slimy, Shady, Worst car buying experience I have ever had! I cannot say enough bad things about this dealership. I'll list the main issues that I had with my car buying experience below. I cannot tell enough p I cannot say enough bad things about this dealership. I'll list the main issues that I had with my car buying experience below. I cannot tell enough people to never buy at McGrath again!! 1. Theft Charge rip-off: The sales rep (Orlando) tried to sneak in an extra $1,000 of "theft" fees. We had asked what the theft charge was and he didn't know. It wasn't brought up again until we the final numbers and when we asked again, he magically remembered - it's $1,000 fee that gives you a $1,000 discount if you car gets stolen AND is totaled when it is found. 2. They sold me a car with THE WRONG SIZE TIRES!! Don't go to McGrath Honda Chicago for service as they can't even get the right size tires on the car. It took 3 trips to finally get the correct tires. 3. The car was filthy. I had set an appointment for the car to get detailed. After driving 30 min to the dealership. The sales rep was not there and the detailer said he couldn't do it that night. 4. I wanted to take the $1,400 warranty off the car. Finance Manager (Luis) wouldn't respond until I followed up MANY times. Once he responded I sent back the warranty cancellation form immediately. The charge still hasn't been removed from the loan and he is no longer responding to my emails. I eventually had to email the cancellation to the loan company on my own and they responded and took off the loan. Would have been nice of Luis to tell me that was an option in one of my 5 requests. If you want the standard slimy used car dealership - buy here but my advice is STAY AWAY!! More
