I brought in my daughters Jeep Wrangler because the AC had stopped working. I troubleshot as far as I could but did not have a recovery machine for the new R1234YF freon. I was fairly certain I needed an had stopped working. I troubleshot as far as I could but did not have a recovery machine for the new R1234YF freon. I was fairly certain I needed an AC Compressor clutch. Dealer got me right in and troubleshot the jeep. they agreed the clutch was not kicking in and said they would need to evacuate and recharge my system to verify it had correct amount of freon. I approved them to do this and they called back to verify it had the correct level when I brought it in and most likely needed a new AC compressor. I asked them if we could just do a clutch and was told that only an AC compressor was available. So i called the parts department at Victory and verified that Jeep did sell just the AC clutch. at this point I asked the service writer to figure up my bill and I had planned to take the jeep home and replace the clutch myself knowing that the system was properly charged with freon and not leaking. I took Jeep home and installed a new AC clutch, after doing so i verified that the new clutch functioned correctly but it would still not kick on without back probing the clutch. seemed like system was low on freon but it I was told it was evacuated and refilled to proper level. I then took the Jeep to a friends Automotive shop who also had a R1234YF evac machine and he verified that the system had zero freon in it and could not in anyway have been recharged. I had him charge the system and verify no leaks and AC system and my new clutch worked flawlessly. the next morning back to Ottawa to discuss all of this with the service manager and explain my concern that AC had not been recharged. he was very open to my concerns and willing to make things right. he offered to eat my entire bill and I explained I wasn't there to get a free bill I came to victory because I didn't have the correct AC machine to continue my troubleshooting on my own. so i felt that I owed for the repair but I also felt that I was owed the freon that was not in my Jeep. We settled on victory covering the cost of the recharge and freon in the jeep at the other shop. I was satisfied at this point but still a bit upset that they let me take jeep home with an Empty AC system and the fact that i had run the compressor with no freon because i had trusted they'd filed it to the correct level. in all the Jeep has been working flawlessly for the last 3 weeks with ice cold AC and no leaks and the new AC clutch that I installed. I am happy that they were willing to make things right, just unhappy that I had to catch the issue myself. More
