My wife and I went to Toyota of Gladstone to look at a specific car that she found on FB Marketplace. I have usually shopped for a vehicle almost exclusively on Craigslist both to get a better person-to- specific car that she found on FB Marketplace. I have usually shopped for a vehicle almost exclusively on Craigslist both to get a better person-to-person price and to avoid the "dealership experience" which in the past I have not enjoyed. Honestly I was not looking forward to the process. But we had been shopping for about 6 months, looked seriously at 4 cars (all '09 to '12 RAV4s) and not found anything that was satisfactory for one reason or another. The car at this dealership looked promising on Carfax, service-wise. When we got to the dealership, we met Samantha Pridle. She was very accommodating to my desire to look the car over top to bottom, under-hood, and underneath. It took almost an hour for me to look over the car while she chatted with my wife. The test drive went well. This was the car (2010 RAV4 V6 AWD). We negotiated a price slightly below what their ask was, and was in line with Carfax value of cars of similar age and mileage, so I felt like it was a win in that the dealership made some profit and we still got a pretty good price on the car. The whole process was pretty painless. Sam was low pressure. The finance guy (for the sales tax, license, title and purchase paperwork - we did not finance the car, and no trade-in) was pleasant and agreeable. This is speculation, but I don't ever recall seeing ads on TV for Toyota of Gladstone, nor hearing them on the radio. So perhaps their overhead is somewhat lower and can offer new and used cars at better prices than their competitors. In sum, though I still might not be sold on the dealership experience, this experience was NOT the ordeal I was concerned it might be. As I mentioned to the Sales Manager when we left, this was not an unpleasant experience! And if I had to go to a dealership again for a car purchase, I would go to Toyota of Gladstone again. We were very fairly treated. More
