GR Auto Gallery is pleased to present this 1978 Mercedes-Benz 450SL Roadster for purchase. The SL class has been a top luxury line of production cars for decades producing ahead of the pack features, comforts, and performance. The R107 model SL came on to the scene in 1972. With the debut of a V8 engine in this lineup, the 450SL was larger and produced a much more modern ride. The fuel injected V8 features an overhead cam and delivered 230 horsepower paired with a 3-speed automatic transmission. The suspension is fully independent and 4-wheel disc brakes came standard. Enjoy the great ride with the removable hardtop on, with the convertible soft top, or an awesome open air roadster experience. The 450SL offered here features just 73863 miles since new. The car is a very well cared for example that remained in the hands of the original owner enthusiast until 2012. It was sold to a collector at that time, and passed on one more time in 2018 where it remained until our recent acquisition. The car remains highly original and is presented in its original DB404 Milan Brown Metallic exterior with matching hard top over light brown saddle interior and Tobacco Brown soft top. The car is powered by its 4.5 liter V8 engine, automatic transmission and rear wheel drive. On cold start, the car does not smoke, starts with ease and has good oil pressure. It is a reliable runner that is great for day trips or longer. The car tracks down the road straight, the steering and suspension are tight and it brakes straight. It exhibits a classic, comfortable Mercedes Roadster ride that is not duplicated by any of the marques modern examples. The exterior paint remains deep and glossy and overall shows excellent. There are some very minor imperfections consistent with age and use. The interior is very tidy and shows excellent. The seat and door upholstery are excellent, carpet is clean, dash is near perfect, the wood in the console is very nice with some expected patina, the original Becker Mexico Radio works along with the clock. Produced form 1971 all the way to 1989, the 3 rd Generation SL R107 chassis lived a long and cherished life and is one of the most recognizable Mercedes of all time. These offer an excellent motoring experience, hold value, and have a future as an automotive investment. Quality examples as the one here are a must consider for all who are in the market.
