The 2021 Hyundai Kona's #1 ranking is based on its score within the 2021 Affordable Subcompact SUVs category. It is the winner of our 2021 Best New Cars for Teens award and a finalist for our 2021 Best Subcompact SUV for the Money award. This two-row Hyundai has comfortable front seats and a modern cabin that is cozy and welcoming. Its projected ownership costs are average for the class. The Kona rides smoothly and handles well. The standard four-cylinder engine is decent and gets the job done, but the optional turbocharged engine is peppier. The base SE model comes with cloth seats, a 7-inch touch screen, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, two USB ports, Bluetooth and a six-speaker stereo. Standard driver-assistance features include a rearview camera, forward collision warning, lane-keep assist and driver-attention monitoring.
