Greetings Wayne, First, we would like to apologize for any miscommunication and any inconveniences you experience while you visited our Service Department. During a 13 month period, a lot can change when it comes to a vehicle. Especially when putting quite a few miles on the MINI. Regarding the Multi Point Service Inspection that you are referring to, the technician will look over your vehicle and mark down the items that may need attention over the next few months. This check includes items like brakes, tires, wipers, fluid levels, etc. The appointment for the check engine light was 46 days after your oil service visit and you had put about 2000 miles on the vehicle. When your check engine light came on we were able to do a diagnostic check on the vehicle, which is a much more extensive inspection. A diagnostic check is not something that we would do during a regular maintenance service, it is something that we do only when your vehicle is having a specific issue. After the diagnostic check had been completed we were able to give you a more detailed report of items that your MINI is going to be needing . We try to give the customer a honest look at what they can be expecting in the next 6 months to a year out. In your case, we recommended replacing a leaking oil pan gasket, replacing a leaking valve cover gasket, replacing worn control arm bushing, replacing a worn drive belt, and you had a third brake light out. All of these items are normal wear items and can be easily verified. On our report, items are color coded. These colors will give you an idea on how soon your MINI will need that service ( Green, Yellow and Red). At the bottom of that report, you are given a total cost of all services. This list does not mean that you need to get all the services done at once. It is just letting you know that overtime (depending on color coding), your MINI will need to get these issues addressed. We hope this explains more clearly that your MINI is just going to need some regular maintenance items replaced over the next year or so. Again, we apologize that this was not explained to you more clearly during your visit with us. Please let us know if you have any further questions.
