My Review of Import Cars of West Chester:
I bought a 2006 BMW X3. I was very happy with the price, but the customer service was horrendous. I showed up to the dealership an hour before closing and although I was buying a vehicle from them, the purchase process was rushed. It was clear that the salesperson wanted to leave and was less concerned about courting the customer. Originally, I had hoped to trade in my old vehicle with them, but they quoted me a trade-in value that was ridiculously low. I ultimately got 4x their offer in a private sale to my mechanic who was well aware of the vehicle's condition. Despite not having a trade-in, Import Cars filled in my purchase order with insurance information from my other vehicle. At no point in the following week, did the dealership ask for proof of insurance on the BMW even though I called at least 3 times in the next week with questions. The salesperson told me I had 30 days to get insurance on the new car. Sure, the state gives you 30 days to get insurance when you have a trade-in, but when you buy a vehicle with no trade-in, the dealer cannot allow you to leave the lot without proof of insurance on the purchase. Import Cars fraudulently filled out my purchase slip with old insurance information and advised me incorrectly. The credit union is now charging me an astronomical price for Collateral Protection Insurance because I needed to have insurance on the vehicle from the date of purchase. I took the salesperson's word and used those 30 days to shop around. I got 5 different quotes from insurance agencies and worked the numbers, never knowing that as I was doing my due diligence, I was getting charged upwards to $25 a day for CPI by the credit union. When I called Import to tell them about the problem I was having, the salesperson said it was my fault, I should have known, that I lied to him when I purchased the car, and that the CPI was my cost to swallow. When I told him that my insurance company said it was illegal for him to let me drive off the lot with an uninsured car, the salesperson told me that again it was my fault, that I was a liar, to call my attorney, and then hung up on me. So much for great customer service! All I wanted was an acknowledgement that the dealership gave me poor information (probably unintentionally), but to offer to offset the cost of the CPI or to help deal with their credit union. Instead, I am contacting an attorney and will never recommend this dealership to anyone. Just because they sell a good car for a good price does not mean you sacrifice customer relations and act illegally with the hopes it never comes back on you. I love my BMW, but no thanks to them and the headache I am now stuck with from this insurance nightmare. I'd rather go to any other BMW dealership in the area and be treated with dignity.
