I experienced a very unsatisfactory service situation at the Norwood Jaguar dealership. I attempted to reach George Knipfing first to resolve this but he did not return my call. I did escalate this to the P the Norwood Jaguar dealership. I attempted to reach George Knipfing first to resolve this but he did not return my call. I did escalate this to the President of this company, Sheree Allen who said she could not help me unless I met with her so she could explain why they decided my vehicle's engine was no good. Here's my story: I am the owner of a 1999 Jaguar XJ8 and on October 16th my wife experienced some overheating of the car just as she was entering our driveway.I looked under the hood and noticed that a plastic tube running across the top of the engine from the radiator to the overflow receptacle had collapsed and had a hole in it. I immediately called the service department at Norwood Jaguar and spoke to George Knipfing who told me not to start it or drive it and to have it towed to their facility. I contacted AAA and had them pick it up at my home take it to the dealership Norwood. Norwood Jaguar's service department called the next day and told my wife that the vehicle had severely overheated and was probably going to need a new engine. He also said that the vehicle would require a great deal of work to even determine if the engine could be saved. He recommended to my wife that we scrap the vehicle. Needless to say my wife was very distraught and called me to inform me of the situation. I called George and he told me the same information and asked me if I wanted to replace the engine and that if I did it would most likely cost more than the vehicle was worth. I told him I declined replacing the engine and that I wanted to have the vehicle brought back to my home and that AAA would be coming to pick it up. The tow truck driver pulled into my driveway and I went out to show him where to put the car. He asked me, “Can I ask what the problem is with your car?” I told him the story and he said to me, “that’s strange, the service person at the dealership drove the car over to my flat bed so I could load it and it didn’t sound like a car with a blown engine.” Needless to say, I was astounded and asked him if he was certain of this. He said yes and started the engine for me and it sounded fine, no knocking, no smoking, etc, just no cooling fluid to cool it down. He asked if he could take it to his shop to see if he could determine the problem because when looking at the engine it was evident that no one at the dealership had tried to put in cooling fluid and run the car to see what happened. I said fine and he took the vehicle to his shop. The bottom line is that he replaced the collapsed tube and filled the car with fluid and ran the engine, the top pipes were warm, the bottom pipes were cold, and so it was apparent that the thermostat was the problem. He replaced the thermostat and cover, the thermostat housing, and gaskets. He filled the car with the proper cooling fluid and the engine purrs like a kitten, no warning lights, no evidence of overheating, it is in perfect shape and we are driving it without any issues. I am horrified with the level of service I received from this dealership; it really wasn’t service at all. People were rude to my wife and less than helpful to me and the bottom line is that it appears that they were not interested in helping me with a problem but only interested in selling thousands of dollars worth of service, a new engine or buying the car for scrap. Thank God for the tow truck driver or I would have fallen for this false information provided to me by this dealership More
