cover up head gasket problem till off warrantee I bought a certified used subaru outback from the dealer, one owner, and they did the service all along. At about 60k I went in for service, and notic I bought a certified used subaru outback from the dealer, one owner, and they did the service all along. At about 60k I went in for service, and noticed on the bill a can of something added during service at the cost of $60. When they went over the bill prior to doing the work they did not mention this. When I got home and looked over the bill I called to find out what the stuff was (BKA Something that starts with a B). The man from service told me it is to help "lube" the engine and prolong its life. What a crock of s**t. Now I go in for brakes, my car just turned 100k miles, and now they tell me it has a head gasket problem, and needs to be replaced for $2k, and while the engine is apart they can do a few more things also Im sure to pump the bill up to $3500 or so...... Now I find out the can of crap they added at 60K was a "coolant conditioner" that temporarily seals up the head gasket, so they can wait until it's off warrantee and it needs to be repaired on your wallet. Very dishonest, If they told me at 60K I would have dumped the car back then when it was worth more. Im so pissed they lied to me about what the additive was and milked me out to this point. Of course Im a woman so they think they can get away with that. Thankfully i am aware of how to use social media and I am going to spread the word. Subaru is know for gasket problems, but they won't mention that to you. Steer clear of Subaru and dishonest mechanics. They are very nice there but don't be fooled. Oh also I mentioned the brake line recall and they told me they don't have the parts to fix it. Nice. More
