Desert Toyota - Tucson, AZ

This is a follow-up to a one star review that I gave Desert Toyota nearly three years ago. Since that time, new information has become available that directly relates to my experience.

My vehicle was equipped with a dealer installed TRD supercharger. This is important because it is now widely known that this option can significantly contribute to the catalytic converter failure I experienced. There are many shops aware of this and several countermeasures are available. Desert Toyota was unable to properly diagnose the issue, and spent many hours and replaced several perfectly good parts in an unsuccessful attempt to locate the problem. They even went so far as to fabricate a lie in order to shift the repair from warranty to customer pay. Why would they do this? Because Toyota Motor Company will not pay a dealer's warranty claim without a defective part as proof of the part failure. They were about to lose a lot of money in parts and labor time because they were only making poor guesses as to the cause. As I said previously, many good parts were replaced in their expensive shotgun therapy approach to diagnosis, and the vehicle still was not repaired. Being a technically minded person, I provided Desert with numerous resources that debunked their ridiculous contention, including independent test results of the good components that were replaced. Even when presented with several undeniable facts, the management of Desert Toyota continued to steadfastly stand behind the deception they created. I can't begin to describe the betrayal I felt. As more and more of these failures and their cause become known around the country, it becomes more obvious that Desert was not only incompetent, but actually committed fraud.

Sadly, this is how my 14 year relationship with Desert Toyota ended. They are all smiling and friendly as long as you go along with what they have in mind. I believe they prefer an ignorant consumer and despise an educated one. The good in all of this is that I have found integrity, competence and honesty in the folks at Sierra Toyota. Precision hasn't been too bad either. If you must do business with Desert, please be informed and be cautious.

I bought a used, but almost new (1100 miles)2007 Toyota Matriz in July of 2005. I owned a Matrix, but it was totaled after a car ran a red light and hit me. As I was familiar with the car, I knew what I wanted. After seeing the new Toyota Matrix's were over priced, I looked at a used one. It was not the color I wanted, but I was willing to settle. After explaining tot he dealer that the price was higher than a new Matrix and it had to come way down, they sated we can work with this. I had worked out the deal and was happy with the payments, but then the trouble began. I was brought in to a room to finalize and sign the paperwork. Some guy took my wife away to get a massage. I was offended by this because the whole time I was wondering "Is some greasy guy got his hands on my wife?" I guess this was to separate us, but really all it did was piss me off. Some fat Jewish guy was the finance guy and boy did he end up hating me. First off when I got in there he just printed out my loan papers and said "Sign here!" I guess he was hoping I wouldn't read it. My payments had jumped from the agreed $290 to $350. I said "Umm the payments are way off. $290 please." He looks at it and says "Oh yea they were $290 but you got the Desert Protection Package, Gap Insurance, and I think some other crap was on there." I said " Whatever I'll take all of it for $290 of course." He got agitated saying that this stuff was extra. I said Fine take it all off I'm not paying thousands of dollars for some scotch guard. He would not accept this back and forth he tried selling me this crap especially the gap insurance. He claimed what if I got in an accident when I left the lot? after putting $3000 down I said "What are you telling me you sold me a car worth way less than I payed for it. No No he said, then he pushed but really what happens if something goes wrong, you want to be protected don't you? I said "I am I have rich parents" I don't but hey thought it was a good excuse. He got angry and insulted me "Don't you think its time to cut the cord?" I laughed in his face and said "Obviously you don't want to sell a call today. I began to walk out and finally after almost an hour of BS he gave me my loan papers at $290. I read it carefully. Pissed off but with my new car I left.
So a few days later I receive a call from the dealer telling me I forgot to sign a paper and I had to come back in, I was promised a full tank of gas (I never got it) for going. Again to the room I went. It was the same loan paper I had signed before. Again they prayed I wouldn't read it. Payments $350, No I said this isn't the loan I agreed to sorry. Thinking they had me sold on this car they tell me "Look you didn't get approved for the loan you sign this or we take your car." Again I laughed at there faces threw them the keys and said "Like there isn't 1000 other Toyota Matrix's I could by in this city. I began to walk out with no ride. I was stopped and they said hold on wait let me see if I could fix this. Some guy made a FAKE 15 second call and magically I was approved for my original loan. This dealer is a bunch of rude liars and tried to pull a fast one on my multiple times. I calculated they would of made several thousand dollars extra had I signed the paper. WHAT A SCAM. I at least didn't fall for it, but I was insulted, lied to and, treated like a stupid spoiled kid (hence me telling them I had rich parents) I was not treated like a customer. The only way I would go back is to waste their time like they did mine.
