Car began overheating. Knew the problem was the thermostat after being a mechanic in the military for 20 years. Called parts stores and was told the themostat was a dealer item. Called the dealer parts store. They did not have the item. It was Saturday morning and I asked if the Service Department was open on Saturday. I was told yes at 11:30 in the morning. Drove 1 hour to get to the dealer. Service department closed. Got the "I am an idiot that sells cars" look from the 2 gentlemen behind the sales counter. They closed the service department at 12. Took car in on Monday morning for overheating. Waited 1 and half hours to get a ride back to work. Slow shuttle service. Called them back around 3 PM and was told the radiator was leaking. No, it was blocked. Not sure if the warranty will cover this repair. It should be done by 5. Many stories in one phone call. Went to dealer. Not done. Radiator on the way. Overheard mechanics talking about not having the radiator. Heard the parts person call the parts supplier using a speakerphone and asking about delivery of the radiator. “What radiator?” is what I heard. 10 minute discussion only to hear the radiator was delivered over 2 hours ago and is sitting in a box under the parts counter. Oh, there it is! 5:30 – time to close up and go home. Service advisor tells me someone will get it done in a few minutes. 15 minutes after closing time, service advisor informs me that it will take 2 hours to put the radiator in. I ask if I can get a rental car. Was told I would have to pay for it. My extended warranty covers replacement vehicles. Get a rental and go home. Next morning, have to call dealer to find out if my car is done. Am told it should be done by 12. I get there about 12 and find out is was done. Paid $50 deductible and went to find car. Was parked in the second row and could not get it out. Must have been done for a couple of hours. Take car and go back to work. Sorry, didn’t make it back to work, as the car was overheating before I got back to work.. Took it back. Service advisor fiddles with the overflow tank cap. Gee, it didn’t fix the problem. Advisor tried to get me a loaner car. No luck. Shuttle driver, 45 minutes away. 1 hour late for work. Get sent to get a rental again. 2 hours late for work, but have a vehicle. 30 minutes after leaving work for home, get a call that my car is done. Too late to go back and get it. 11 AM the next day, go back and get my car, only to find out it needed a thermostat. Wow, what a concept. If this dealer had only one person that was competent, he would probably kill himself for working with a bunch of idiots. I will NEVER buy a KIA again. Thanks for drilling that fact home to me folks…

When I bought the car, the sales guy was the ONLY one in the whole city who did not lie to me or make me buy something I didn't want. But in the years since I bought my car (which is great), I fear dealer visits like the plague. These people will do anything to avoid fixing your car, and often leave things broken when they're done. They've broken my CD player, left the oil cap off, and failed to tighten bolts on my tires. The parts guys have made anti-Semitic comments to my Jewish partner, and they've charged me for work which did not fix the car. Due to their lousy workmanship, my poor car is dying. I would love to get another, but there is NO WAY IN HELL I will ever buy a car from those people again.
