We had a nearly 5-star experience at Toyota of Tampa Bay. We drove over an hour to look at a specific used car, which was available, clean, and ready to test drive. He was kind and polite to my party of 3, including my teenager; he helped us evaluate the vehicle in the lot and get out for a test drive; and, most importantly, he advocated for our needs with management. We ended up buying the car, but nearly did not. After a satisfactory test drive, I asked T to draw up the papers. Unfortunately, the sales manager who came to present the offer showed us a total of $24,000 on a $14,000 car!! There were many add-ons that didn't apply and we didn't want, but instead of helping us find a price that worked for both parties he basically told us we were lucky to get the car at that price. We walked. T called a few minutes later and we were able to negotiate an acceptable price. Without his diligence and willingness to work with management to remove some of the bloat (they still stuck us with their $3000 "premium protection plan" -- buyer beware of this fee on every car here!), we wouldn't have been able to take home the vehicle. What would have made this a 5-star visit is if the first conversation with sales management had been about getting us the vehicle we wanted at a fair price, instead of justifying all of their add-ons. Thank you again, T, for your kindness, professionalism, and willingness to listen and discuss!! Also, would like to say we had a great experience signing all the papers with Nidal. He was pleasant, did not unduly pressure us to purchase any additional service plans (though he did present them), and helped us get out in time for a late dinner. More

If you are looking for a new car, I advise you go elsewhere, or get your complete quote with everything and just before signing leave to look it all over at home, and have someone else look over the elsewhere, or get your complete quote with everything and just before signing leave to look it all over at home, and have someone else look over the papers as well. There is a reason why used car salesmen have a reputation for being sleazy. My quote was just under $20,000. It was a long day there as no one was capable of answering a question- each time I asked something Floyd or Nidal (finances guy) didn’t know the answer so they had to leave the room, have a conference, and then send someone else in to answer in a convoluted way with drawings etc. it was all quite theatrical. I wasn’t prepared to spend an entire day there and didn’t have food with me so by evening I was shakey, since all I had was my morning coffee, not thinking clearly and with a migraine. Lesson learned! They turned the conversation to the monthly price, and by the time I signed the papers they had swindled me and didn’t give me my paperwork. I ended up having to get it emailed, and the selling price was $26,000, which now Nidal explains was the car cost of $19926 and includes over $6,000 in dealer fees. Also I had been adamant about not purchasing any additional warranties but was convinced to purchase Gap insurance as I was told I can cancel anytime. BEWARE! I saw on my receipt emailed to me that they tacked on some kind of Windshield warranty (completely useless) as well as anti-theft warranty (also useless) that added additional $2,500. I tried to call and cancel these but they say I can’t and it automatically comes with Gap insurance (which they conveniently left out when I was there). My last 3 car purchases were through Autonation over the past 30 years and I never experienced this fiasco. I advise that you either stay away or bring a lawyer with you, because they will lie & cheat and given the opportunity will rob you blind. More
