The 1975 Corvette Stingray occupies a specific and significant place in Corvette history. This was the last year Chevrolet offered the convertible body style, a configuration the car had been available in since the very first Corvette rolled out in 1953. It would not return until the mid-1980s. The coupe, which this car is, carried on with the T-top configuration that had become the defining open-air experience of the C3 generation, and in many ways offered the best of both worlds. Finished in white with the tan leather interior, it is a clean, classic color combination that has aged as well as the body itself. Under the hood is the 350 cubic inch V8 backed by a three speed automatic. The mid-1970s were a difficult era for American performance cars across the board, with emissions regulations and fuel economy concerns pulling horsepower numbers down industry-wide. The Corvette navigated that era better than almost anything it competed against, leaning on its lightweight fiberglass body and proven small-block V8 to stay engaging and enjoyable to drive when many rivals had become shadows of their former selves. Chevrolet advertised the 1975 model as a more efficient Corvette, and that efficiency came without sacrificing the character that made the C3 worth having. Inside, the tan leather interior is original and well preserved. The T-tops are present and give the car that open-air feel that defines the C3 experience. This is a very clean example that has been looked after, and it shows throughout. The C3 Corvette was styled after the 1965 Mako Shark II show car, a design so striking that Chevrolet ultimately decided to put it into production nearly unchanged. Bill Mitchell, the head of GM Design at the time, was so particular about matching the paint color to an actual mako shark he had caught that the story became automotive legend. The shape that resulted from that obsession ran from 1968 through 1982, and the 1975 coupe sits right in the heart of that run with one of the most recognizable silhouettes in American car history. A clean, original interior C3 in white over tan does not require a long explanation. It speaks for itself. Please call or email us today for more information.
