Mr. and Mrs. Baker, I truly apologize for the situation that transpired that day, but based on your behavior I felt like I had no choice but to honor your wishes of no longer doing business with us. The truth is that I did my best to make amends for the scratches and immediately told you I would take care of it. I explained further, that since you admitted that you forgot that you left the $250.00 magnetic light on the top of your truck and that you signed off on a repair order stating that our dealership was not responsible for any items left or stolen in the (or in your case, on top of) the truck that you were responsible for the light. However even after I offered to fix the scratches you kept on about how terrible our shop is and how disrespectful our team is. I told you that no one was disrespectful to you and that because you are an intimidating man they got nervous and scared. I still apologized to you for the incident and asked for a little grace for the service advisor that you kept saying negative things about. Unfortunately, nothing I attempted to do or say satisfied you. You continued with your negative words until you finally chastised me and told me that if I didn’t talk and work with you, “you would make sure I talked to your attorney.” At that point I told you that I was done speaking with you and that our team was done with this situation. We would offer no more assistance. You remained on the lot and called the police to file a report on your light. A few minutes later one of our veteran master level certified technicians brought up your light and said they found it in the dirt on the back lot. I brought it to you and apologized again for the trouble, but was glad the light was not stolen. Unfortunately that is not the end of the story. Your brother arrives to the dealership and is irate. He is confronting me and my service manager concerning the situation and the truth is he had very little knowledge of the situation. After approximately fifteen minutes of listening to him bashing our store, our employees and the Dodge product and threatening us numerous times with bad reviews on social media, etc., I finally agreed to fix the scratched again. Unfortunately, that still was not good enough for him. He demanded that we do more for you like free oil changes or something else because of your trouble. I then looked at him and said that you would get nothing more and that we were done with the entire situation. We then walked away to avoid any further confrontation. Later that day, your vehicle had a check engine light come on and my service team called me and told me you wanted to bring your truck into our shop. I had no choice but to refuse because I believed, and still believe, that I had to protect them from any additional insults or outbursts. I apologize again, but stand firmly by my actions. The people that stood around us and watched as this situation unfolded completely understand why I did what I did and I as hard as it was to make that decision, I firmly believe it was justified because of you and your brother’s behavior.
