Simple 100,000 spark plug change gone bad We brought our truck in for the 100,000 mile tune up thinking it was the right way to do it. Bad choice. We always did all of our maintenance because of the horrible experiences our friends had plus my husband is a mechanic but I talked him into letting the dealer do the work this time. BIG MISTAKE! We have never in the 43 years of driving a TRUCK, or vehicle for that matter, had one blow a spark plug. Not only did the spark plug blow it ripped the boot right out. One hundred for the boot and one spark plugs. To top it off they had the nerve to say that this particular year truck was known for doing this because of not enough air flow in the engine compartment. Both my husband and I knew that they were FOS. The dealer said that it required a kit to fix it but my husband wanted to try it himself because he was sure all it needed was a hela-coil plug and boot. Well when he tried to put the plug in he knew that the hole was to big so he called the dealership. Again he was told that it required a kit and it would be approximately 400.00to fix. Unbelievable, 458.00 later. They charged us for three hours of labor plus they said they had to put it on their machine which we could have done ourselves and then come to find out that there was NO KIT, just a heli-coil. Total cost 558.00 to put a heli-coil, spark plug and boot on our vehicle. Fact is that whoever did the maintenance on the vehicle the first time either over toqured, stripped or didn't get the plug put in correctly. I spoke with Corporate headquarters customer service line and they said that they had NO RECALLS OR RECORDS OF THIS VEHICLE THROWING SPARK PLUGS. So what does that tell you. Overpriced and dishonest.
