Surprising high-pressure sales tactics In the past I've had excellent sales and service experience with this dealer. I've been very happy with my car since I bought it, and the service center was excellent. Their customer service has improved even more in the past couple of years, and after my previous visit I was anxious to fill out their survey to let them know how well they were doing. Then I took my car there on Saturday, June 6 for a minor repair and decided to wait there until it was completed. I was interested in the new Camry, so a helpful and knowledgeable salesman (David Zak) struck up a conversation with me and I test drove two of them (4- and 6-cylinder). After the test drive I was taken to a special "Upgrade" room where I met Shaz Khan. This is when the high-pressure sales tactics began. He scribbled some terms on a piece of paper and gave me a monthly payment, which must have been a good offer (because he told me so) and claimed I could drive the car home that day (undeterred that I had not actually chosen one). Then he realized that I really "should" get the 4-cylinder and asked David to let me test drive one (even though I did so already; is he David's boss?). On this third test drive I explained to David that if there's some expectation that I'm going to buy a car on the spot, that's going to be a problem. When we returned, Shaz wrote another number on another piece of paper which was the monthly payment for the 4-cylinder. He mentioned that it was cheaper, and on this I had to agree: the second number was indeed less than the first number. I asked what the payment meant and eventually he divulged that it was a 3 year lease to buy (which I hadn't asked for). As far as colors, he only offered me a choice of the colors of the two cars I drove. I went into the same spiel as with David explaining that I was not going to buy today. Tim (the service guy) then called my name on the loudspeaker to come to his office, but they went and got him to come there (apparently so I wouldn't leave the room!). Shaz also kept offering to somehow work my repair bill into the deal if I got my new car on the spot. Of course since I couldn't drive my car home, I was a captive audience, which made these sales tactics even worse. Tim explained that they had found a problem with my car and if I wanted to get it fixed today (which I did) they would give me a ride home (which they typically do). While I waited for my ride, Tim let me hang out in his office "so you won't have to be harassed by those guys." I've bought four new cars, and my sales (and service) experience with Atlantic Toyota had been the best. But this latest sales experience was by far the worst. I can't understand trying to pressure someone into buying a car on the spot without even explaining what they were agreeing to! More
Stress Free I have had alot of contact with other dealerships while searching for our new family truck and found that more often than not the salesman was pushing I have had alot of contact with other dealerships while searching for our new family truck and found that more often than not the salesman was pushing for a purchase or pushing to run our credit to "firm up" the numbers. At Atlantic Toyota I did not have the same feeling. When my husband and I and our two sons entered the dealership we were greeted immediately and waited about 2 minutes for a salesman. Louis Bono introduced himself and addressed all 4 of us (including my 5 and 7 year old) immediately I felt comfortable with him because my children weren't a bother for him. He asked questions and found out all the information he needed, but never made me feel uncomfortable or that I was being pushed into anything. I found him to be very knowledgeable about the vehicle and answered all questions with a friendly, calm demeanor. One of the things I found to be an outstanding sales tactic was to give my husband and I some time alone with the kids and the truck to talk and make some decisions -------- this allowed us to speak freely and make a decision on the spot which as far as we were concerned closed the deal. Tafawa was the financial representative we dealt with and again I found him to be extremely respectful and helpful with our situation. He also was extremely knowledgeable and gave us amble time to ask whatever questions we may have had. The approval for our loan did however take a bit longer than I would have liked, but in the end it was positive and we bought a 2008 Nissan Pathfinder and were given the Toyota warranty plan which I am very pleased to have. I found Louis and Tafawa to make an exciting yet financially scary situation so calm and stress free that I almost forget I was spending my money. I would and in fact have already recommended Louis to a friend of mine to come in for a lease. As a whole I found the dealership to be a great place -- the staff was interacting with each other and including the customers in conversation. I couldn't be more pleased. SO I TOOK HIS CARD AND I SAID WHEN ITS TIME TO LEASE AGAIN I WILL USE HIM. SO TODAY I LEASED MY NEW 2015 PRIUS FROM LUCA WHO BY THE WAY HE IS AN EXCELLENT SALESMAN AND I WILL RECOMMEND MY FRIENDS TO USE HIM.
