Folks, do your research before visiting a dealer. Ask for straightforward pricing on your purchase, and upfront offers on your trade. Do your research on the market for your trade ahead of time. If you don't like the numbers, say no a renegotiate. If you don't want the add-ons they put on the invoice, say no. I'm giving 5 stars because I got the exact numbers I wanted on the deals, but I'm a little annoyed I had to leave and return after they lowballed my trade, then called back to say they'd give me what I wanted after all. My time is worth something too... Got to finance and again there were add ons that I didn't catch the first time. Luckily, I got in touch with Payton Ramos and reviewed the numbers and he worked immediately and got them taken care of for me. I appreciate the help on that front. I hope this is the last vehicle I purchase, because I am very weary of the whole dealership model at this point, not singling out AutoNation specifically, but it can be quite tiresome to purchase a vehicle with the back-and-forths that are totally unnecessary. I researched new trucks for about a month. On 01/28/22, I found one I liked at AutoNation Frisco. I sent an online inquiry for availability and set an appt. for 01/29/22 (Sat.) @ 9:00AM. I a On 01/28/22, I found one I liked at AutoNation Frisco. I sent an online inquiry for availability and set an appt. for 01/29/22 (Sat.) @ 9:00AM. I arrived at 8:45 and after some minor confusion, I was handed off to a salesman. I asked a few questions about the truck and explained my trade-in and then asked about seeing the truck. He said there was a mistake, the truck was at the North Richland Hills AutoNation, and it would take about an hour to go get it. I told him that based on AutoNation's reputation, we can discuss the numbers before we see it. The first clue came when they lowballed my truck trade-in and I called them on it. The sales manager, salesman and trade-in manager told me that they had given me their best offer. The trade-in manager said that he was going to have to invest about $1500 to get my truck ready for sale and there was no way they could give me the amount I wanted. So I said thanks, have a nice day and walked. The salesman follows me out the door and says that I'm moving too fast and I need to give him a chance to work on this. I said you had 2 managers both tell me that was their best deal. It's a simple yes or no question, you either can or you can't, so I assume we are done. After a bit more conversation, he assures me it would be worth it. So back in we go. Clue #2 came when we got back to the table and they start with the numbers. I tell them the numbers don't matter to me, the value of my trade-in is the question. After about 30 minutes or, we come to an amicable agreement, and wouldn't you know, they blew right past their "We're gonna lose our xxx on this!!" point and met my number. Which theoretically could have saved us all a couple of hours by doing this first instead of going through all the other mess. to arrive at the same place. My time is worth a lot more than sitting there playing number games. So now we have put together a deal. I tell him that I will go to lunch and to call me when the truck is here. He goes to confirm the truck is ready and returns to tell me there had been a mistake, it's not in N. Richland Hills. It was at the detail lot about 10 minutes away getting it ready for me and we can go look at it if we want. We get to the detail lot and he goes in the office for the key. After about 15 minutes, he comes back with the key and tells me the truck is still being prepped, but we can look at it. We get to the truck and its gorgeous. It has all the bells and a couple of whistles I was looking for, plus new tires. I'm in a pretty good mood now when he tells me that they need to install a new catalytic converter, but it will be ready about noon, Monday (01/31/22). Ok, bummer, emissions. I get it, benefits me in the long wrong anyway, so I said ok. I drove it, inspected it and found only 4 things. I brought them to my salesman's attention: missing door knobs in the back seats, 1/2 size AutoZone battery thrown under the hood (no hold down installed), no floor mats and the catalytic converter. I'm good with it, it can all be done in 15 minutes after the muffler shop. Monday morning around 11:00, I text the salesman for a status update. He said that management has assured him that they were waiting for the muffler shop to finish and it would be ready that afternoon or (clue #3) tomorrow at the latest. I said ok and again reminded him of the things that needed fixing. 02/01/22, I text the salesman for a status update about 11:30 and was advised that he was headed to the muffler shop. At around 3:30, he texts me to say the truck is finished, he just has to go back and pick it up. About 4:30 I get a text saying he has his hands full with clients and he will call me when the truck is at the lot. About 5:40, I get a text asking him if I would give him one more day, that he is swamped and the shop closes at 6:00. I replied with "Not much choice in the matter." *Sidenote - Don't most dealers have porters that handle these things? I then proceeded to the dealership and do not deny that I was pissed. I believe the 2 first things I asked was "Who's in charge of this place?" to which a young man behind the desk said I am. To which was my next question of "Where is my truck!?" I'll give the man credit, he didn't blink an eye. As I was explaining everything, the manager looked at one of the other guys who said "Cody was working that." I don't have a clue who that is (yet) and the manager asked me if I could give him until 11:00 the next day to look into it or, if I wanted, he would reverse the sale. Again, I really liked the truck, so I agreed. 02/02/22, I get the call as agreed. The manager told me he was not sure where the confusion came from, but the muffler shop was closed on Sunday's & Monday's (remember Monday morning when the sales man texted me "they were waiting for the muffler shop to finish and it would be ready that day"?). The manager told me that they were wrapping it up and would be going into detail as soon as it got there and everything should be good. I reminded him of the same 4 things, and was assured it was no problem. But due to an incoming ice storm the dealership was closing early, 3:30. I told him I would be there at 3:00. At 3:00 I get there and see the truck sitting there, still wet from the wash and my salesman heading out with paper tags. So I follow him out to the truck and start looking it over. No mats, knobs, battery or hold down. The weather is turning so I told him I would deal with it later. I also asked if there was a 2nd key, and he said no. They only have whatever the previous customer left. *Sidenote 2 - Most of the bigger used car dealerships give you 2 keys. I can't complain because I knew what I was doing. I just think its make them look cheap, I get 1 from a dealership that I gave 2 at $250 a piece too. *Sidenote 3: Remember the trade-in manager that said he was going to have to invest about $1500 to get my truck ready for sale? If my new truck had this "$1500 make ready" done, I would like to know what exactly AutoNation is inspecting: when the 1st thing you see when you open the hood is a smoking hole with a tiny battery, and no hold down? It seems reasonable to me to think that a fully charged lead/acid battery that emits flammable gasses, bouncing around under the hood, might be a safety issue. I go outside the next morning, hit the button on the remote, it's dead. No lock, unlock or panic. And yes I changed the batteries to known good ones. Ok, so I'll use the key. I hit the key button and the key comes out and almost falls out. It's so loose in the fob that it doesn't want to unlock the door. Just to be sure, I checked the catalytic converter. There was a brand new universal one that looked like it was welded in by a 1st semester Lincoln Tech student, but it works. Fast forward to Sat (02/12/22) and I show up at AutoNation service. I was greeted by Mo and I explained to him what happened with the truck and what needed to be fixed. I told him I needed the correct battery, the factory hold-down installed, new key & fob with programming. I told him that I am willing to pay for it, but I would like to know if AutoNation will help with any of that. He said, "We should, let's go see the sales manager". He introduces me to a manager I haven't seen before, Cody (remember earlier; "Cody is working that..."). I explain the whole thing to him and he assures they will take care of it. Sidenote #4 - I blew off the cheap floor mats they were going to give me for a nice set of Weathertechs. Cody told Mo to go ahead and get the battery fixed, then gave me a business card for a locksmith. Ok, so I call, no answer and leave a message (they never did call back). I ask Cody if I'm supposed to tell the locksmith to send the bill to AutoNation. He tells me that AutoNation wasn't replacing it, it was bought as-is. Here we go again. I remind him that I bought a truck on the condition that everything was working, the remote is not and the key is falling apart. Finally, I told him "Just fix the thing so I can get the xxxx outta here." and walked back to Service. About 10 minutes later, some guy in a blue shirt I hadn't met before, comes up and tells me the manager has authorized a replacement key. Mo hears the word and an hour later, I am pulling out of AutoNation. So recap: Got the truck I wanted. Got the price I wanted. Was it worth the aggravation? To me, no. And I will probably not buy a car again from them. Their service department however, impressed me enough that I will be going back to them for all my services. And I have to pass 3 other dealerships to get there. As a bonus to the story; On 02/17/22, I get a statement from my bank on my old truck. I owed $34 to payoff the truck because AutoNation shorted the payoff. I paid the $34 just to be done with it so I wouldn't have to go out there again. I have relayed the events that happened to me and it may not be the same treatment for everyone. I'll let the reader decide if these are the people they want to do business with. If you got a deal that made you happy and you walked out happy, that's great. Next time, I will too. The ONLY reason this dealership got 2 stars was because of the service dept and Mo. I give 5 stars to service, 5 stars to parts and sales owes me a couple of stars. There is enough information above that if you wish to discuss this with me personally, you have my contact info.
