Inadequate Advice, Unprofessional Service & $9,000+ Quote for Known Defect I bought this 2017 Toyota Highlander XLE (3.5L V6 AWD) brand new from Baierl Toyota in 2016 and brought it back to them for servi for Known Defect I bought this 2017 Toyota Highlander XLE (3.5L V6 AWD) brand new from Baierl Toyota in 2016 and brought it back to them for service with 112,233 miles on the odometer. Prior to servicing, I specifically asked service advisor Shawn multiple times whether a transmission flush was safe to perform at this mileage, and I was explicitly assured it was completely safe. Shortly after the service was completed, the vehicle developed a distinct transmission whining noise exclusively during acceleration—a symptom documented word-for-word in Toyota Technical Service Bulletin T-SB-0160-18 regarding the UA80 8-speed transaxle. I returned to Baierl Toyota to have the system inspected under service advisor Joshua Rother, who was dismissive and rude throughout the visit. The diagnostic check took over 2 hours while I was ignored. When I asked him to provide the transmission serial number for my records, he flat-out brushed me off, stating he was "too busy." The technician verified the noise and confirmed it wasn't covered under the CSP, but instead of offering any goodwill assistance or corporate escalation for a long-time customer who bought the vehicle directly from them, they simply handed me an estimate exceeding $9,000 to replace the entire transmission out-of-pocket. Between receiving questionable advice on the flush, experiencing rude and dismissive treatment from Joshua , and being handed a $9,000+ quote for a known factory defect. More
