If these guys will turn off a check engine light before a test drive I can imagine they will do anything to sell you a car. It's no coincidence that 30 seconds after pulling out of their lot after I purchased a vehicle from them, the check engine light turned on. After Frank said they were not going to fix it, I asked him if he would by the car back, Which he then gave me an excuse that he could not buy the car back because he it already sent the request for title to the state. I decided to sue him and his business . After speaking to the attorney general, it turns out there is nothing I could have done besides take him to small claims court. They told me I would probably win, however, I may not see that money if he cannot pay it back and if I do it will be a few years from now. I am a current college student and I needed a reliable vehicle which I had told him previously. When I went back to Bay City motors to pick up the vehicle to bring it somewhere else, Frank decided to park my car in the woods behind his shop. Leaving it covered in Pineneedles and sap which will still not completely come off. I took the car to get an estimate on how much it needed to get fixed, and it needed over $6000 worth of work. More than what I actually paid for the car. Turns out I lose and there is nothing I can do. Frank Gatto is a joke of a businessman and doesn't care about his consumers whatsoever. This is not the first time Frank and Bay City motors have scanned a customer. Believe me, just look at the reviews.. More

I would have rather gone to a dealership with suits, cause at least you know what your getting. suits will stand by there product even if its only for a short while. Frank should not be allowed to work on cars and neither should his fill in mechanic. Do not make the same mistakes that so many others have before you. If you want a European car go to a reputable dealer with a reputable warranty. More

Portland, Maine! Buy a vehicle at BAY CITY MOTORS!!!! I am a 40-something local who's been living in Portland for years. One who believes in supporting our local business. And at Bay City Motors I found I am a 40-something local who's been living in Portland for years. One who believes in supporting our local business. And at Bay City Motors I found a diamond of a car dealership, less than 2 miles from my house. I arrived on a Saturday morn and it was busy on the lot, but the owner, Frank Gatto, got to me in no time at all when I was ready to try out the Toyota 4Runner on his lot. He was laid back, unpresumptuous and friendly....a REAL person, not a suit, not a swindler, not a negative stereotypical used car guy. I took the 4Runner for a test drive after Frank had informed of a small ticking noise on one of the belts. Drove beautifully. After I got back, Frank and I talked prices and we got to negotiate. He also said he would fix the belt for me, which I was psyched about. So I ended up purchasing the car later in the day. His assistant walked me through the paperwork and got everything ready to go. During the following week I made an appointment with Matt (Frank's mechanic) to fix the belt and ended up changing the day and time at least 3 times. They were continuously unfazed by my crazy schedule and fit me right when it was convenient to me. The whole process was seamless and I would rate the place and the people at 5 stars for everything. So comfortable. No pressure. COMPLETE SATISFACTION! And best of all, I'm driving around in this cool 4Runner!!! More

I had to bring in the Maine State Police into it as well. The owner is very unprofessional and rude. I had my car inspected by Jason King, who is one of the state's inspectors. He contacted the owner, Frank and told him that work on my car needed to be done. Overall it wasn't worth buying a car from here. I have and will continue letting people know NOT to buy a car from here. More

It had a little wear but I have had no problems with it since purchasing it. It gets good mileage and just needed to replace the timing belt and a few other small things. They were really friendly and were able to put the car on hold for me for a couple days until I was able to come and take it for a test drive.it was priced decently for the few scratches and 117k miles on it. I would definitely recommend them for their used cars! More

I have never before dealt with a place like this! Thur Sept 11th - Came into the shop to get prices on parts make an appointment for my car. I called in the late afternoon, and was told that I would get a call back to confirm prices on parts and make an appointment. Tue Sept 16th – I came into the shop because no one would get back to me by phone. I was told by the secretary “who had the owner on the phone” that I would absolutely get a call back later in the day. I let her know how frustrated I was from not being able to make a simple appointment. Thur Sept 18th – I never got a call, so I called and finally spoke to the owner. I was finally able to get prices for the parts and labor and made an appointment. I made an appointment for 9am on the 30th. Tue Sept 30th - Came in for my 9am appointment and I was told that the parts were not in yet. Had over a week to order the parts. Got a call at 5pm, the parts were in. Had to reschedule my appointment for Friday Oct. 3rd Came in and they put in the parts. 2 hours later I had to come back because my car was acting up. They tested the “new” parts and 2 of them were bad. I had to go back the next week to have them do it again. I spoke with the owner, and he told me that I was not his priority, and I should find another place to get my car worked on. He basically told me to shove off. I have never before dealt with a place like this. After talking to others, I later found out that a number of people who bought their cars there have had many issues with their cars that they bought from him. More

I have and I'm regretting it and doing everything possible to get my sanity back. Car had MAJOR issues within 3 days, and it turns out my state inspection sticker is a bust. More
