Disappointing - Trying to Buy a Car I have previously purchased and owned two Nissan Sentras, one new and one previously owned but certified. I found them to be decent, reliable vehicle I have previously purchased and owned two Nissan Sentras, one new and one previously owned but certified. I found them to be decent, reliable vehicles in my price range with good features. My current Sentra is a 2014 and I had just finished the payments in time for my child to reach sixteen and earn a driver's license so it was time to hand that one over and get my next car. Of course I thought I'd be getting another Nissan. After looking at some prices online (I did have to provide my phone number and email address to get the prices), I took my sister with me and off to the dealership we went on a Monday afternoon to look at Sentra & Altima options with low mileage. My plan was to purchase a car Monday or at the Tuesday. We stopped at another dealership first so I'd have a similar type of car to compare the Nissan to since I'd been driving Nissan for the past five years. That experience went well, with knowledgeable staff and no pressure tactics but stopping there had been more of a formality to make sure I wanted another Nissan. We then headed to Nissan and unfortunately the entirety of the experience left me with a lack of confidence in this dealership. We were browsing the lot, standing in front of a used altima that had a few more miles than I would've liked and little higher price than my range when we were approached by a friendly salesperson. He asked what car I wanted rather than asking for what types of things I was looking for so I started to tell him that I currently drive a Sentra and was giving it to my child. He led us away from the altima we were looking at and over to a sentra. It had a little lower mileage and a little lower price but he had yet to ask me what my price range was. He told us about the color of the car and why that color was so special but that wasn't really a feature that mattered much to me so I told him so...we were told about this color another six times from him and another dealer on the lot:( He showed me the trunk and seemed surprised and pleased to tell me that it had a carpet in the trunk and that was uncommon; I've never been shown a vehicle that didn't have carpet or a rubber mat in the trunk area so I'm not sure why that should be a selling feature, maybe he meant the carpet was a nicer level of carpet or an upgraded carpet? He asked if I wanted to test drive the car and since it met my minimum requirements of miles & price I said I could but just around the block because I couldn't imagine it drove much differently than my existing Sentra. I told him I do not come to Bellingham often and I wouldn't know my way around so please give me plenty of notice if he wanted me to turn and I did not want to go on the freeway. I followed his instructions and ended up on a rather long trip up Alabama hill and down to the lake. As we drove (we had lots of time) we asked many questions but our dealer wasn't familiar enough to answer these questions: Q About how many miles, with good maintenance, can a sentra be expected to last? A: it would depend on so many factors no one could really say Q what is the "eco" light on the dashboard? A: I think that might be economy or something. Q Do you think "eco" is a setting or button that I could push like "sport" and turn off? A. Maybe Q. Are there major differences between this sentra and the sentra I have from 2014...? A. this car would be newer Q. What is the next step up from a Sentra and what would be the benefit of looking at that model? A. Some information about different trim packages available on the sentra and another review of how special this color was Q. I haven't had a car with a backup camera before, are there other safety features on this car that weren't on the 2014 model I drive? A. yes there probably are you could look at them... Q. Is this a certified vehicle? A. maybe, I could check Q. What's the advantage of a certified vehicle? A. I could check but maybe the warranty transfers Q What kind of car do you drive? A. I drive a Kia and love it! When we returned to the lot another dealer joined us as we exited the car and were asking our dealer if we could see an altima. The other dealer told us excitedly about the color package on the car we had just drive and I wasn't very polite in saying "the color of the car is not a feature I'm interested in, it really doesn't matter. What I would like is to compare this car to a Nissan Altima. Is there an altima here in my price range with low miles?" and my dealer started looking around while the other dealer said there was one and led us back to the altima we had been looking at when we arrived on the lot. We again tried asking about the differences between a Sentra and an Altima but my sister finally gave up and just demanded the key so we could look in the car. Our dealer had to go get it. When he got back he opened the car and then went through the same steps of telling me about the color of this car and then showing me the trunk. He again was excited to see carpet in the trunk because "you don't always get that" and then he showed me the emergency release latch and asked me "do you know what that's for?" I said I was familiar but had no intention of getting locked in the trunk. I asked how this vehicle would be different from the sentra because it had similar miles but was a bit more expensive. He said it would drive like a nissan too. I asked to take it around the parking lot or the block just to get a feel of the difference and we once again headed out. He tried to take me on the same route but I refused since I didn't need a long drive and just wanted to go around the block so I turned right towards Lakeway. An emergency light turned on the dash while we drove so I asked what it meant but he didn't know and thought we didn't need to worry about it. He again wasn't able to answer questions about the vehicle beyond the cosmetics and showed me the sun visor and how it could slide. I tried asking some questions about the features and some of the settings on the steering wheel that I wasn't familiar with but he wasn't sure what those buttons did. As we drove, my phone rang and my sister answered. It was the Nissan dealership calling to ask if we'd like to come test drive cars. We said we already were and our dealer immediately started asking "who is that? which dealer is that on the phone?" but we ended the call. Unfortunately I don't know my way in Bellingham and the dealer didn't tell me he wanted me to turn until I was stopped in the middle lane at a light and he realized he should have had me in the right lane to turn. Instead he could only figure out how to get back to the dealership from there by putting me on the freeway. When we got back to the lot we asked if there were any other sentra or altima vehicles that met our requirements on the lot that we could look at. Our dealer assured us that he had shown us the two best options because he really cared and wouldn't waist customer time. We thanked him and said we had other cars to see at another lot. He then said he did have other vehicles that would probably be better for us but we'd had enough. He asked us to please wait just one minute so we went in to use the bathroom. When I got out of the bathroom he had his manager and they were talking about the sentra I had looked at and did I want to make a deal? I never expressed a preference between the two cars I had seen and was flabbergasted as I'd just told him I had other cars to see. My sister had had enough though and told the truth of how we felt about the experience. We did take the managers card and left. When I got home that night I had an email from Nissan that had come in about ten minutes before we'd arrived at the dealership that afternoon. It detailed an Altima that had lower miles than the two cars I'd been shown and had a lower price than the two cars I'd been shown and was a "certified" vehicle. I was so frustrated! I would've been interested in a car like that since my previous vehicle was a certified vehicle and this vehicle seemed more in keeping with my desire but I just couldn't go back. The next day I received a phone call from the internet sales department following up on the altima they had sent me via email and they were told about the negative experience. They apologized but it really wasn't their fault; I was on my way to another dealership to buy a car. A few minutes later the internet sales manager called to apologize for our negative experience and offered to help us if we wanted to come back. That was a nice gesture but if I ever decide to purchase another Nissan, I'll drive to Burlington or Everett. Instead I found a nice vehicle at another lot, certified by the dealership, with only 9000 miles and the dealership adjusted the price so that it was within my range. More

Excellant Service Department Today (June 7, 2019) took my Nissan Altima in for sevice.. I was unable to open my trunk, so brought it in to be checked. Was suppose to take an hour Today (June 7, 2019) took my Nissan Altima in for sevice.. I was unable to open my trunk, so brought it in to be checked. Was suppose to take an hour to repair, and after 10 minutes, I believe his name was Ryan, came out & said "it was finished ." Come to find out, I never knew there was a switch in my glove department that will lock our car, trunk, if we wanted to have it locked while away from my car. and you give your key to a valet. It had been pushed by mistake. Needless to say, felt a little silly but extrenely happy as there was no charge! Thank you Nissan, we really appreciate you being honest and so happy, I wasn;t handed a big bill. .No wonder, I always take my car in for service, it's the very best! Thank you!!!!! More
