Gave me a thorough and objective maintenance review, I have been searching for a pre-2000 Dodge Ram 2500 pick-up truck for over a year. Wanted the Cummins trubo-diesel in line 6, 24 valve, quad cab. Or I have been searching for a pre-2000 Dodge Ram 2500 pick-up truck for over a year. Wanted the Cummins trubo-diesel in line 6, 24 valve, quad cab. Ordinarily, Blackwell doesn't retail a vehicle this old, but I had contacted them asking if they could keep an eye out for this the Holy Grail of diesel pick-ups. As it turns out, they had been servicing this vehicle for the same customer they sold a 1998 to some 18 years ago who finally decided to trade it in for a new model. They immediately called me up, gave me a balanced assessment of the good, the bad, and the ugly of an 18-year-old trade-in with 269,000 miles on it: cracked vinyl dashboard (they all have this), paint very faded, but no cracks in the glass, windows operate, they had replaced the short block two years earlier. I said "hold this truck for me, I'm coming in for it." By the time I got there five days later, it had a new alternator, new starter, new upholstery, new cab headliner. Brakes were excellent, transmission was very tight, engine sounds like it just came off the assembly line, paint job was great, and no leaks, seeps or weeps on any of the underbody. I have operated motor xxxxxxfor the Army for thirty years, I can spot a brass tack and this vehicle was that good. On the five-hour drive home I stopped once for fuel (23 mpg, which is factory spec) and once for food. BOTH TIMES, guys approached me, asked me if I would consider selling this vehicle to them, and one offered me cash on the spot. No, it's MINE! The maintenance manager spent thirty minutes going over this vehicle with me, showing me some maintenance indicators that even I was not aware of. When they found out I was a veteran, they took the keys from me and gave me 3/4 of a tank of fuel (the tank holds 32 gallons). A VERY HONEST, PEOPLE-FRIENDLY DEALERSHIP WHICH I WISH WAS CLOSER TO ME SO I COULD SERVICE THIS VEHICLE WITH THEM FOR ANOTHER 19 YEARS! More
