You are absolutely right that if a check engine light is present on a vehicle, especially when it is covered under warranty, it should have been discussed with you before you left the dealership. We should never assume a customer does or does not want a concern addressed, and I understand how frustrating it must have been to make a second trip because that conversation did not occur. I am also concerned to hear that additional items were noted on your vehicle but not clearly explained. Our responsibility is to thoroughly inspect your vehicle, communicate our findings, and ensure you have all the information needed to make informed decisions.
