!!!Negative Stars - F Rating from the CA Better Business Bureau!!! Today (3/29/24) at California Motors Direct Santa Ana I test drove a used 2020 Mini. I reviewed the CARFAX the night before and noticed Bureau!!! Today (3/29/24) at California Motors Direct Santa Ana I test drove a used 2020 Mini. I reviewed the CARFAX the night before and noticed they bought the car at auction on 9/25/2023, and there is no record of them doing any maintenance on the car during their 6 months of ownership. Seeing that the car has 12 months left on the manufacturer warranty, I thought it would be worth a test drive. Google reviews of this dealer included many concerning and unpleasant consumer experiences, but there were also good reviews, so I thought I'll just go look for myself. When I arrived to view the car, the salesperson led me out to the parking lot but he couldn’t find the car. I was trying to be patient and give the guy space to find the car. I said to him, “why don’t I wait for you at the front door while you find the car.” It took 20 mins to find the car. This seems to be the norm here as other reviewers report similar experiences. He unlocks the car and seems to want to rush right into the test drive. I asked him to give me some time to visually inspect the vehicle before it gets too dark to see. Once ready, I go to start the car, and wouldn’t you know it...the car didn’t start. He had to jump-start the battery with a battery jumper stationed nearby... because I guess this is common practice at this dealership. Almost immediately into the test drive, the salesperson asked, “how much gas is left in the car”? The fuel gauge was indicating empty, and the Fuel Reserve notification turned on. (I also noticed the brakes were quite worn.) The car status monitoring system was indicating an engine oil alert and a maintenance alert. I should’ve left at this point, but curiosity got the best of me. I still wanted to know what their offer would be. He asked to see my Driver’s License so he could scan it. This is not required ever. I declined. He verbally quotes me the “Total” and says it includes 1) the price of the vehicle, 2) HIS two “add-ons,” and 3) fees. He didn’t even provide me a printout of the “Total”. I had to request he give me a printout showing all the numbers (which he was bothered about). Once I got the printout, the “Fees” weren’t provided in a line by line format, they were just lumped into one “Fee”. Again I requested to see all fees listed line by line; and again, he was bothered to do so. There were fees I had not seen at other dealerships like a Flat Tire fee. Not sure if this is legit or an actual thing? The two add-ons were an 1) anti-theft device and 2) a service agreement, each item was listed at about $1400. I told him I don’t want the add-ons, and I’m not paying for them. His response was “fine we can remove the optional add-ons, but then I have to add $2,000 to the retail price for dealer fees”. He was upset that I didn't want them and aggresively said they were for "my benefit". LOL. He said the $2,000 was a dealer fee for when a customer asks to have scratches or dents repaired on their car. What does that have to do with me? There’s nothing from my experience at this place or from reading reviews that leads me to believe that they are repairing a car scratch upon request. I asked if they would lower the retail price since I would have to immediately perform all these maintenance items (including some level of brake work). It didn't seem like an unreasonable request given the conditions. He tried to tell me the dealership would do it and he could include it in the bill of sale. I said no, I don't trust that the dealership will actually do it. At which point I got tired of their shady tactics and left. I’m posting this hoping to help warn others to stay far away from this dealership.
