Hello Kristine, please accept my apology for the multiple repair visits. This is certainly not typical for our service department. Unfortunately, Jeep/Chrysler had to work through a couple of engineering "issues" with the new model of Grand Cherokee. Regarding the check engine light, I can assure you that our technicians were working as diligently as possible and were under the direct guidance of the Chrysler engineers in Detroit. It is truely unfortunate that your Jeep was one of the first ones to exhibit this problem, and that it took so long to get resolved. Regarding the key issue, we should have communicated to you that we needed both keys for testing and reprogramming. Again, I apologize for the inconvenience. Hello Jon, I can fully appreciate the frustration of the situation and the cost of the repair. Regarding the diagnositic, most shops in town do charge this as a seperate fee (with and without the purchase of the repair). I confirmed this with our employees who previously worked at Ford Country and Pep Boys. My bother-in-law works at American Auto & Tire, and he says that it is a seperate fee, also. He did mention that a lot of shops tell their customers that the fee is "applied to the bill" without fully explaining what this means. Other shops will also tell their customers that it is "included" in the repair or will actually bury the fee in the repair cost. In my mind, these are the games that give the auto repair industry a bad reputation. Regarding the clockspring, there was a design issue specific to the older mini-vans. This caused Chryler to issue a recall for replacement. Since neither the federal government nor Chrysler has determined that there is a design problem with the 300 clockspring, Chrysler's basic 3 year/36,000 warranty applies (Chrysler will not reimburse us the cost of the repair).
