I called to get a quote for a “worst case scenario” for brakes. All four pads and rotors for my 2012 Subaru Outback. I was quoted just over $1000 for that service—similar to the local shops I called ($499 brakes. All four pads and rotors for my 2012 Subaru Outback. I was quoted just over $1000 for that service—similar to the local shops I called ($499 for parts and labor for each “axel,” about $1000). I figured it would be better to take it to the dealership if the cost would be comparable. They ended up not needing to replace the back pads and rotors and were able to resurface the front rotors and replace the pads. Great! Must be less expensive than the ~$500 I was quoted for new rotors and pads! Imagine my surprise when I got the bill and it was $492 for the resurfacing and new pads. I called to ask about this and get some clarity and the woman I spoke with LAUGHED at me and told me the quote I originally got from one of her coworkers was way off. I asked if that’s all she had and she said yes. No desire to rectify, to check my file, to investigate what happened. I called the service department and left a message for the manager and was never called back. I know for sure I got swindled as they wanted to charge me $70.49 to replace a brake light. I was able to do it myself for less than $6 and in about 7 minutes including the time it took to find a screwdriver in my toolbox. They “recommended” services, but could only back up the cabin air filter. The rest were based on “miles.” I got the timing belt replaced because I know I likely needed it, but i fully regret letting them do it and I know it cost way more than I needed to pay. I was grossly overcharged, spoken to disrespectfully, and my concerns were not addressed by management. I’ve been taking my car to Subaru dealerships for the 11 years I’ve owned it and I’ve never had an experience as terrible as this one. More
