I inquired earlier today about a 2022 Audi S5 Cabriolet that looked good and was being offered at a fair price. I decided to move forward and was sent a purchase quote. I was hot-to-trot at their advertise that looked good and was being offered at a fair price. I decided to move forward and was sent a purchase quote. I was hot-to-trot at their advertised price and maybe a doc fee. Instead, they had a mandatory $2,885.00 "Nissan Benefits Package" and an ambiguous $450.50 "Non-Tax Fees" line item. PLUS the $225.00 doc fee. The Nissan Benefits Package comprises a bunch of nonsense that no one needs. Also, they sent me pictures of the car and I saw no evidence that the protection film had been applied, which is one of the things in that package. No one ever explained the $450 "Non-Tax Fees," but either way, both of things pushed the price to an uncompetitive level. Oh, and neither of those is documented in any of their disclosures on their website or on the listing aggregators (Cars.com, Edmunds, AutoTrader, etc). I confronted the salesperson about how their advertised price was deceptive if they had no intention of taking it, and he basically told me that [a] the car was worth $40,000 on trade (not true) [b] every dealer in Texas does add-ons (not true) and [c] that they could simply jack up the price of the car to bring it up to market value if I didn't like the add-ons. I countered at their asking price and they refused to accept. Which, fine, is their prerogative. But I urge anyone doing business with this dealership to read all your paperwork carefully. Adding in disingenuous fees like these is exactly how buyers end up upside-down and overpaying for their cars. You should take your business to an establishment that's more straightforward; I know I will. More
