Turned out all right after a bit of consternation. Out of Utah, I came on a low mileage, but 14 year old 2005 Acura MDX offered by Courtesy Chevrolet on the day it was first posted on the internet. It was night time and I wound up talking/chatting with an agent (Christa?) on the website. When I called the next morning, I was acknowledged as having made contact and was given a salesman to talk to, but then things got a bit flaky, Instead of going directly to making the deal, I was put off until next week in favor of some locals, and then a man flying in from out of town and then whatever. What seemed to be reality was that with the car priced at $7500 there was significant interest as the original ad was pulled and the same ad but with a price of $9000 took its place. To somebody's credit, after another week, I was told that we could have the car for the original price. One of the curiosities was that a credit card down payment was needed, but apparently under California law that will not hold a car as the potential buyer has the right to withdraw without penalty? So I needed to show up immediately. Airplane tickets are high priced on short notice and I prevailed in asking for three days, but still paid twice what a week's time would have meant for a $136 ticket. Net result: We have the car in town, purchased for $7500. With gratitude for brakes and battery, the MDX is now in the shop getting the unfulfilled age and mileage related services needed, making the total eventual cost of the vehicle to us about $9000 plus tax and license. I had a good experience dealing with Robbie Holley. Taken at face value, he was a needed advocate. I also shook hands with Jesse Miller and dealt with Doug Burroughs in Finance for the paperwork. I appreciated the access to Courtesy's Arizona dealership to facilitate the Utah related out-of-state transaction. More
