Maybe because I bought a vehicle used, I didn't have the great experience others have had. This was an internet sale, as I live 3 hours from Albany. I did my homework and checked available sources as to the great experience others have had. This was an internet sale, as I live 3 hours from Albany. Because NY has a stringent inspection process, I trusted that any problems would surface during this procedure. I drove home in my new purchase, and subsequently failed inspection in my home state. My mechanic said that this could not have been an oversight, and that a sticker was probably just slapped on the vehicle. When I contacted DeNooyer, I was first asked if I hadn't noticed something wrong on my way back. We then went through the dance of them "checking their records" and finally contacting my mechanic before they agreed to pay for their mistake. In fairness to their Service Department, I was reimbursed promptly for the expense incurred. Unfortunately, the deed was done, and I had been made at first to feel that it was my error. Had I lived closer, my own mechanic would have checked the vehicle prior to sale, but the distance precluded that. I trusted in the comprehensive standards required by NY law, and that the vehicle would be deemed satisfactory during a rigorous inspection process. The rest of my DeNooyer journey was only a lukewarm experience for me. Everyone did their job fine, we worked our way through it, and I have my vehicle. The exception is the team that handled the paperwork. They get five stars for their sincerity and genuine pleasure in seeing me happy with my new purchase, because I do love it, even if it was a bit of a rocky road. As for my rating, it is not given in malice. I believe five stars implies outstanding service, and I can't honestly rate it as such. I replied to DeNooyer's request for an evaluation of my experience, and relayed the above, as well as a couple other issues that had arisen, but received no reply from them. Vehicles cost a substantial amount of money these days, and it is not unreasonable to have expectations of a certain level of professionalism and response. So, as I relied on this dealer rating as part of my own decision to trust an internet sale at an unknown dealer, I merely want others doing the same to be informed. More
