I recently leased a new Kia Sportage Hybrid from Destination Kia and traded in my existing 2023 Kia Sorento lease, which still had three payments remaining. As part of the transaction, the dealership clearly stated that they were covering those remaining payments as part of the deal. I turned in my Sorento on February 14. However, on February 26, Kia Finance still automatically debited my account for a $600 lease payment on that vehicle. I contacted the finance person at Destination Kia expecting assistance, but was told there was nothing they could do and that I would eventually receive a refund from Kia Finance once everything processed. He also told me this happened because I didn’t cancel autopay myself. This was frustrating to hear, because they handle lease turn-ins every day, while most customers only go through this process every few years. A simple heads-up to cancel autopay would have prevented this situation entirely. Instead, I had to spend a significant amount of time on the phone with Kia Finance, navigating multiple departments and repeatedly providing my personal information, only to be told that they were still waiting to receive the payoff from the dealer nearly two weeks after I had already turned the vehicle in. Until that payoff is received and processed, they cannot issue my refund. So at this point, I am simply waiting for a $600 refund check with no clear timeline, due to a situation that could have easily been avoided with better communication and follow-through. What disappointed me most was not the temporary overpayment itself, but the lack of ownership and guidance from the dealership afterward. Once the new lease was signed, I was left to resolve the issue on my own. I like the vehicle, but this experience left me with the impression that customer support ends once the paperwork is complete. I would strongly encourage anyone trading in a lease here to proactively cancel autopay themselves and closely monitor the payoff process, rather than assuming the dealership will handle everything seamlessly. More

The service department here is absolutely abysmal. First, I tried to make an appointment online and by phone but no one ever answered, so I had to come in person just to make an appointment. They took all the info about my car (2 recalls and a broken door latch), and I was told the next available appointment was in a month and a half. A month and a half later I come in, leave my car all day, and come back in the afternoon only for them to say that no fix exists for one recall, the part they had for the other was broken, and they didn’t even look at the latch. They order the part for the recall and I come back in two weeks to get it fixed, but now they don’t have the part for the door and want me to come back a 4th time. So I’ve been in 3 times and have had 1 out of 3 problems fixed, and they didn’t even have the parts in stock for their own recall. On top of this, the service rep was condescending and at one point accused me of lying about my car being in an accident when there was absolutely no accident and I had already explained that the door just stuck after being shut one day. Apparently this is a fairly common issue (see this article https://gearfixes.com/kia-door-lock-problems/), but they acted like it was unheard of. The mechanic who worked on the car himself seemed nice, but the service rep was condescending and department as a whole was incompetent. I will not be coming back. More
